I know this is a delicate topic for a lot of people on this site, but this really needs to be addressed. I saw this topic here and it got me thinking.

Unique naming is unfair.

Yes, I know pet names are cleared often. Yes, I know some people think there isn't a name shortage. But what is this system really doing for the community? From my point of view, nothing useful. The people who manage to get the good names, the nice-sounding names, get to boast about their good names while other people are left out of this circle of one.

Now, what's the issue with having multiple pets with the same name?

It might hurt the feelings of a few people. But remember, that same people are the ones who don't want to give up their unique names for a pixel pet on a site. Does it sound harsh? If it does, please rethink. A duplicate name does absolutely nothing to devalue the name your gave to your pet. It does not take your pet from you, it does not change anything about the pet that you personally own. You can still keep your tribute pet, your fan pet, your pet for remembrance of the loved one in your life. When you insist on keeping the unique naming system, you are negating that same feeling of relief, happiness, anything you felt when you thought about creating your tribute pet from other people.

Now you might say, have people pay for this! That's fair, right? Except it's not. That excludes people who don't have money from getting the name they want.

Before I go off on a tangent here, let me finish with this: Subeta loses almost nothing by implementing a duplicate naming system. Maybe a few people will whine, but in the long run, it will be better.

Especially with the pets having unique IDs, and with the lower IDs also being considered valuable...

The only problem I do see would come in with pet spotlight. Obviously the link goes to the actual profile, tied in with the unique ID. But ... idk I could just see that coming up.
