Does anyone know where to find older (ie no longer in use) pet or item art? I'd like to take a look back at the history of Subeta's art, and in particular I really want to find the original art for .

Found it! It can be hard to find images like these as they're not collected in one place to my knowledge. Pausedlife is a site that archives mainly the old pet arts, but I didn't see items there.

But usually the old item image is still around onsite but with a slightly different URL. The revamped URL is https://img.subeta.net/items/food_iku_kittyfruit.gif while the old URL is https://img.subeta.net/items/food_kittyfruit.gif

In this case I found the old URL by going to the subeta wikia (different site) and seeing that the file for the kitty fruit was referred to as food_kittyfruit https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/subeta/images/d/d0/Food_kittyfruit.gif/revision/latest?cb=20140831124656

So I went back to subeta and changed the revamped URL to remove the iku part and there it was.
