Am I the only one who thinks the filled wardrobe achievements should be retired? I'm always shoving things I don't want in there just for the achievements. I'm almost at 10,000 with the highest tier being 15,000. With so many other users doing the same thing it must be a huge drain on server resources.
Agreed. It's kind of dopey at this point and it does have to be a strain on resources. Not to mention, people love to bemoan the fact of too much sP being onsite but what keeps happening? Pouring that into achievements that more than likely strain the servers and an achievement for being the richest user.
Things that make you go "Hmmm"...

Well, the wardrobe achievement probably helps encourage people to spend sp rather than hoard it since you’re buying as many wears as possible
However I don’t know if this achievement is causing as much strain by itself. In order to actually cut down on strain wouldn’t they have to both retire it AND limit how many items we can have in the wardrobe? Just like old user shops.
I suspect people will still have 10k items and over even without the achievement. I clear my wardrobe regularly and still hover right around 10.5k. To make a real difference something more drastic might be necessary, limit wardrobes to 5k items, for example. Which would be a bummer. But maybe the achievement would help slightly? Idk, it seems too small a change.
I wouldn't have so many items in my wardrobe if it wasn't for the achievement, but I also frequently buy doubles to have it count towards the achievement. I've lost money on quests several times because I had to go buy that extra item that I didn't have in my wardrobe. When I'm done, I'll sell off what I can and have fun fragging the rest.
But I have to agree with . If you really like the wardrobe part of the site, you're just going to passively have a lot of items anyway, and considering the amount of CWs and CS wearables, it's probably not in Subeta's best interest to put a limit on how many items you have in the wardrobe.
I also don't know if it is a huge strain? It would have to depend on how it's coded and if it can be optimized, but of course, I would love to see Staff have some input on that matter.
No support. It's an obtainable achievement, which encourages active site participation. It's a challenge to complete.
I'm someone who hasn't actively purchased items for the achievement, but I'm sitting at 14.6k items simply through normal site use. People are going to have large wardrobes simply by the nature of this site. I think there are more than 31k clothing items total. Limiting the wardrobe will cause the site to fail- it's what the majority of players statistically spend money on. Limit a core feature of the site, and that'll start the exodus.
Next you're going to say it's like getting rid of the "Restocker" achievement, because oh no, in encourages you to purchase 25k items, and that might cause server strain!
Staff was already on record as having to want to remove and or retire massive Achievements like this two Wardrobes ago. I know that the last time they seriously threatened to do this I went into a panic-buy and bought a fuckton of Subeautique items that I would never ever wear because they were the easiest way for me to get from my 13K items to 15K items and I wanted to get that Achievement before it was retired since I was nearly there.
The reason given by Staff and the many users who requested these kinds of Achievements be retired is because they required much boring grinding and made getting Achievements boring. That said? Many grind-achieves have gotten extra tiers since then, some by user-request (!). So who knows just how sincere anyone staff and/or users are about this.
Nevertheless, both arguments put forth about server strain and what actually causes value/inflation of sP? Possibly wrong since there's no way the OP can know what does and does not cause the server strain this information is not intimately shared with us nor should it be, and wrong because fiat-currency economics and the economics of the site don't work that way The reasons given are a solution in search of a problem.
You have a total of 24,520 items in your wardrobe!
Well above the 15K achievement. So getting rid of that achievement wouldn't encourage me not to add even more items to the wardrobe. I once tried to remove stuff from the wardrobe - I didn't sell anything, I just put stuff in an extra shop. Then tested to see if I'd actually end up needing those things. I was at that shop pulling stuff out and adding it back to my wardrobe nearly every day. I gave up eventually and put it all back.
Removing the achievement won't stop the itch to hoard and will piss off people who've been working on it for years. No support.

It's not grindy unless you're aiming to complete it in a certain amount of time. you can easily get there just by playing the site and restocking like a "standard user" so to speak. Yes, those who are really into achievements can spend hours on subetalodge with their checklist and mass buying things. I know because I've been there.
But at the moment I've gotten to 13,330 / 13,500 over the years and then said fuck it and sold it all off. Which means I now have a stupid amount of money and nothing to spend it on... so we're trying for the 15k again. Slowly, but we're still going for it.
I have no need to restock, my pets only get worked on when I have a burst of creativity. My beanbag collection could be completed in 20 minutes if I could be bothered. So the only thing that gets me on here on slow weekends and wastes a lot of my time is slogging through and filling up that wardrobe.
Take away that achievement and I'll go back to barely logging on because I have nothing to strive for. Its hard to want to do anything when you can just buy whatever goal it is you have. This actually requires a bit of effort.

I'd been playing the site for nine years just casually adding stuff in when the threats to retire the 15K tier started sounding serious. It really did take me that long to get to 13K items. If it takes nine years of casual wardrobe collection 15K is not is easy or easily done just by playing. You might be a wee bit more competitive and hard-working than the average Subeta user, because I'm on here a lot.
That said I'm with you on users collecting major quantity of things seriously because they and you find it fun. I don't have my collections completed because I spend my sP buying and selling things and this is fun for me. As weird as it may seem to other users, so what if it is?
If you put all the wearables you get from vending and site events into your wardrobe it’s pretty easy to get to 15k... i decided to go for the wardrobe achievements randomly one year and got them all within 6 months with the majority coming from vending and random aquirements and I didn’t spend a fortune of sP either so it is fairly easily obtainable
I have no support for this. It is a fun and rewarding set of achievements to go for and so many people love their full wardrobes. I have over 25,000 items in mine and I’d be upset if we suddenly had a limit.
