What is the advantage? Both blast one item. Am I missing something? Is it just that cube does 13 icons and empty pillbox does 2?

The cube is single use. The only advantage of the blaster is that it's tier 2 while Soma is tier 5. Otherwise, Soma's vastly superior.

Soma has a chance to freeze and steal, and will activate a blessing and a curse.
