So, my friend gave me a challenge here recently - apparently it's pretty small and tends to be only in her artist community, but it's pretty useful for practicing things like character design and creation, expressions, outfit design.. UH, anyway!
A little bit of background on the challenge:
SPOILER (click to toggle)
To partake in the challenge, all you have to do is tell yourself you're going to do it. That's it. The challenge itself is rather "challengeing".
You take six colors, any colors you want, but not by Hex code - by name. For example, for mine I picked Cyan, Lavender, Navy Blue, Orange-yellow, Acid Green, and Bubblegum pink.
With those colors in mind, you must then draw six characters relying mostly on that main color and how the color itself makes you feel (i.e. Cyan has a mostly cyan color scheme, and cyan to me is.. really bouncy? Kind of pep and skip-yay? Orange-yellow is actually rather heated, like fire, and his color scheme is mostly orange, but with accents of black. It's rather a jarring, in your face kind of color..)
Once you've drawn those six characters - while trying to stick to the idea of what the color does for or says to you, you must then..
Combine them.
Yes, you combine all six characters into one character, while retaining key points to the character's design in the latest character. Is it going to look disjointed at first? Of course! But it helps with creating a diverse cast.
I'll probably post my progress pics on one of the characters (I started with Acid, no surprise, he's the easiest for me) when I get to it.
Characters below!
Acid
Nothing yet. Still struggling with the hair...
Orange
God, this kid. He drew the shortest straw in terms of height, didn't he? (Not even close to done)
BB Pink
Don't trust her! Like, at all! (Not even close to done)
Lavender
Can she just.. Stop being so CUTE? Get this child a kitten and a nice fantasy book. (Not even close to done)
Navy
The longest suffering man to exist. He has to herd all these kids around.. (Not even close to done)
Cyan
So confident.. Doesn't she ever stop smiling? (Not even close to done)
