Asking as someone who's gotten beyond sick of sifting through every single item I own just to lose my patience before completing an outfit: Do you have a system for your wardrobe that helps you speed up the process of dressing your avatar? If you do, I would love to hear it. We may not all be able to use the same methods, but at least it can help provide ideas.

not all items are described by the words in their itemnames, but many are.
If I want something in a layer that matches other colors I can put in colornames that are similar and this will limit out a lot of obvious non-fitters but also exclude the few not so obvs named items that do fit. The Wardrobe used to have a color matching system, it's too bad the new one doesn't.
If there are some oddly named items I use a lot but forget the name of I create a drawer for them. So I have a Drawer full of all the facial hair separated out from all the eyeshadows and lipsticks.
Sometimes I just enter a string of a few letters long like "ock" will get me stocking like items and sock like items.
Not all items have item images that show you what they are, but a lot do. Sometimes doing a quick visual scan with lots of results per page instead of only ten or twenty will help me pick out just that one item.
I have under 5k items in my wardrobe so it doesn't bother me to just sift through most layers. I don't use certain types of items much (socks, for instance) so there isn't a lot of clutter and I try to clean things out of my wardrobe that I don't use.
I do have drawers set up for different themes of backgrounds, and lighting filters (like the I'm wearing...I don't know what else to call those items). I don't keep the drawers quite as updated as I really should, but they help out.
I also really like making HAs so it doesn't bother me to just fuck around in the wardrobe for a while until I come up with something I like, which isn't really helpful but I mostly just kind of wing it :')
I don't have one, sorted by "Added to wardrobe" and done with it. Past a certain point, it's just item fodder since the art style doesn't really fit with the newer stuff anyways.

You have a total of 24,135 items in your wardrobe!
So I need a lot of organization. I work with drawers. I have some that are layer specific like "eyes" and some generic ones like "ragged" that will have items from nearly every layer.
Unfortunately my drawer system is completely out of date and needs a total revamp. I've been waiting on the site to fix it since we've been promised two things that will make it much easier to revamp my drawers. One of which is a drop and drag into drawers. Sadly I'm beginning to wonder if that's ever going to happen. I also have nightmares about trawling through my wardrobe and finally getting everything organized and Subeta actually getting around to fixing this issue the day after I finish. Either that or the layer reorganization they've been discussing (a wig layer, etc) will happen right after I finish fixing everything and totally invalidate my system and I'll have to start over.
One other thing I do is if I get into searching fatigue, I'll save my HA as is and go back to it later.

I have got set up: Hair (I can probably get rid of this when the wig layer arrives) Basic (for wearables with multiple recolors) Unique (items without recolors) Ugly (itemsIi keep in there just for the sweet sweet achievements) Monster (wings, horns, claws, wacky eyes) Masks (to seperate the ginormous amount of masks from other face layer items) Animals (same as masks but for the lifelike doll items and other pet/animal items) Face (eyes and mouths but also body blushes muscle tonics and other makeup) Tattoos Wounds (includes bandages, stitches, blood splatter)
It took a hell of a lot of work to set up initially but requires little upkeep
In terms of actual organization: I have drawers for separating out categories of things that are mixed up across layers, and things that have 'categories' within layers. So, my list of drawers looks something like this: Animals, Lifelike Dolls, Hair, Eyes, Mouths, Long Pants, Short Pants, Skirts, Dresses, Tattoos, Weapons. I have a strong focus on things I use frequently in my HAs but that can be hard to find mixed in with everything else.
Then as far as actually making the avatar goes, I either go in with a concept and work from there, looking for pieces that will fit it, or I find an item that I like, usually either something from the Chest layer or something from a drawer, and thematically build around that.
Hope this is helpful!
they/them/theirs, please.
Basically. I've gotten to the point where I've memorized the order of things in this way. Only issue is some older things still have workable art and I forget that it's on page 2 in my face layer.
I just type in what I want to browse. Vanity, delish, subq key words ECT ECT. I also go to layers or specifics like cw only. If I make something I /REALLY/ like I save it for fast rewear.
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
Honestly I cant wait for color search to come back because I dont really have a system going I just color obsess and go from there lol
Bathory is hungry for MORE MORE I SAY. - If you think you are unattractive just remember you look like your ancestors, and hey all of them got laid-
I have over 13k items, so it took a bloody obscene amount of time to organize it, but this is how I have my drawers set up. [Click me!] They're numbered, because they show up alphabetically in all the drop down menus, if that helps.
