I'm not really interested at this time in making my own CWs, but I was curious about commissioning others who have already made hair styles just in custom colors. Is that a normal thing? What are the prices in doing that, generally? I'm okay with them making a full batch and selling the rest if I can get a little bit of a discount toward the actual commission, since they would make a lot of the CSC back selling the rest. I am interested in all possible options though.
Also does anyone know the creator of set? I know the artists of the other hairstyles I'm looking for. owo Please and thanks!
I'm interested in doing this with your Sleepy Chipmunk Knot. I'm interested in doing this with your Monster Milkshakes
This sounds a lot like requesting a recolor of someone's item, in which case it really depends on a few things.
If that person is looking for recolor requests. Not all releasers are accepting requests for their items. Some people prefer to only get the colors they're interested in, as a lot of those people need to pay an artist to make that recolor, and then if the item does not fill the first batch, they have to then also pay for the rest of the slots that didn't fill to get it onsite. It can be very expensive if the recolor is unpopular. (remember that not all cws sell all of their batches.)
If they're accepting recolor requests for free or not. I've seen a few things possible here. Sometimes a releaser will accept your request for free if it's a color they also want. Sometimes they will ask you to cover the cost of paying the artist if they don't want it. (usually 500csc+ to pay the artist, and then you'd still need to pay for your slot on the item, which in wig's cases usually means 600-700 csc. Also some artists only accept real money for recolors past a certain amount, so the artist price may not be payable in csc.) And then the final scenario for this I could see is them asking you to pay for the price of the artist to do the recolor + the price to fully submit it if they don't want to release it / the slots don't fill / etc. This would be the most expensive option, and would vary depending on the item and how they're submitting it / if they want you to also cover the artists copy / etc.
In general the best advice I can give you is to contact the releasers (which you seem to already be doing) and see if they're looking for recolor requests in the first place. They may say they're not (which is their right, since it's their item) but if they are, you can proceed from there :)
GL!
the artist of the pumpkin patch strands I do believe is but the releaser is
And I am not 100% sure on what exactly you are asking about the commission thing? Are you looking for certain colors in wigs that are already available? Or are you wanting a new hair design and wanting certain colors?
[edit] Well I think worded it perfectly!
-- Thank you! This explained things very clearly.
-- Yeah, I'm mostly looking for recolors of existing wigs. I have a character with tricolor hair and I've been limited to default hair styles so that I could highlight it with the Subeta system. But most of these hairstyles don't really match them as a character. So I found CW wigs that match their style and want to commission recolors to match if the artists/releasers will work with me on it. Does that make sense?
I read your response to and I do want to say really quick that you should think really carefully about requesting / putting something onsite that is based off of a personal character.
When an item is put onsite, the item then belongs to Subeta, and once it's in the avatar system, this also means other people can use that item to make HAs with (even if they don't own the item, they can still make 'avatars for fun' and then use your character's 'style' as a style for potentially one of their characters). So basically, if you value that trait of your character as unique or special to them and it would upset you to see other people's characters with that exact trait, I don't encourage trying to get it onsite, as fun as it would be to wear it on your HA.
I don't really mind because the OC is one of my pets anyway that I RP with on the forums and aren't used elsewhere. So I mean... Technically already belongs to Subeta in a sense? I'm usually on top of the rules of Subeta and the outcomes of actions taken within those rules.
Technically speaking, people can't "copyright" hairstyles on Subeta for the fact of there being real life basis. That would be my argument against it. There would and should be some style variation but past that, yeah, if it's based off something in real life, you can't copyright it.
As for the second, CW creation normally runs between 5000 and 6000 CSC. Or roughly $50-$60 American. Plus normally a slot for said item since that's kind of a common courtesy but that depends on the artist and their tastes. Luckily, if your CW is denied for any reason, you don't have to pay all that out again.

Hi there and thanks for the ping! I think what you're wanting to do is sometimes referred to as a 'collab' where you pay for the recolour and the item is slotted by either yourself or the releaser.
I'm really sorry as real life is kicking my ass right now so I'm not open to doing collabs at the moment, though I used to do them in the past. Here's how I normally do them, in hopes that it might help you arrange things with someone else who might be willing to collab: You pay the artist for the recolour and commission it yourself, we would normally agree on how many copies of an item would be released. I'll slot the item and if there are profits, your slot, my slot and the artist slot is free and the remaining profits are split 50/50 between us. If there are no profits, you will have to cover your/my/the artist slot.
Thank you so much for the response. That makes sense and seems fair all around. If you ever start doing collabs again please let me know. Monster Milkshakes are some of my favorite wigs on site. I will get one one day. is filled with determination
