but when I get there, the post that pings me is actually by , not by .

There is no forum mention notification from Epis

So, I think it's a bug.

Are one or both of those users admins for the group? Because I'm pretty sure one of the admin privileges for group forums is the ability to edit any forum post, even posts that they didn't originally make (only in forums created by the group).

So it's possible that the post was made by someone originally, and then the second user/admin edited the post and pinged the group so it tracked it to that user instead of the listed OP.

At least that would make sense as an explanation without it being a bug, I think.

Aha! yes that makes sense. Thanks ... so the ping comes from the person who edited, even that isn't the person who posted? ok, not a bug then... sorry!

I guess it's probably not something that happens super often, since editing someone else's post without them knowing would be kind of rude. But I guess if it's just like an info post for the group or something similar, it makes sense if other admins sometimes edit and update it even if they're not the person who first posted it.
