Your problem sounds similar to:

For your friend, it could be a browser issue. I know a while back they said the wardrobe didn't work in IE and I'm not sure if that was ever addressed. People who return after a very long time can have wardrobe issues because they need to convert old HAs, but I'm not sure what current issues are happening with new accounts.

How do I change my avatar? I did everything it suggested but now I still can't get to my clothes. I can only take things off of my avatar. (I'm currently using the browser on my iPad but I had the same issue on my computer)

Did you take a long hiatus and you're just back? If so, you need to convert your avatar.

Long time user, left for a while, found my old password. I converted my avatar in the wardrobe, but it's still not showing up?
try clearing your cache and cookies and converting again.
I had tried that, but doing it again helped and I was able to wipe my HA back to default base. Thank you.
You are welcome. Those of us who lived through the Wardrobe change had to convert our HAs four times. If your account is super-old you may have had to convert it twice, if it's just old you have to convert it the once. Cache and cookies are part of the issue with the second required conversion. I have no idea why so ???
If you have Saved Outfits or Extra Wardrobe like I had, you may need to reconstruct them. The new Saved Outfit feature is pretty awesome though.
Anyways I write that because other returning users may read this. Yeah, all y'all do it again really we're not wasting your time. :)
