Lenore steps into the common room and clears her throat. When the rest of the students quiet down she makes an announcement.
"The first house points have been tallied and we're doing well. But we could be doing better! Ravenclaw is beating us out of first place and that just won't do. The ambitious house is not one to be outdone."
The looks of disappointment and irritation on the faces of the students keeps her going.
"Don't lose sight of the goal, it's well within our reach. We are Slytherins after all, we can pull anything off." Her eyes glint. "So let's do something the other houses aren't. Let's focus not only on participating in lessons but in dominating them!" She grins in a way that is just a little frightening.
"We all know that house points are given for taking part but bonus points aren't that hard to get. I'm confident that you all can score us some extra emeralds in that hour glass! I'm posting a list here," she holds out a piece of parchment and then tacks it to the notice board, "that has some tips on it. Along with...
Prizes!" She grins waves her wand, causing a number of intriguing items to appear on a nearby table. "Anyone who participates will be rewarded. And our top scorers will receive especially nice items! So, take a look at what's available and get some points for Slytherin!"
Tips To Get More Points
Look to see if Bonus Points are mentioned in the original post.
•These are often awarded for particularly creative/clever entries. These can really add up! Just think outside the box a bit. Ask yourself 'What would get the attention of the person scoring my entry?' and have some fun with it. A few things that stand out:
•Playing outside of the expected gender/station roles •Addressing a relevant social matter (in a positive way!) •Humor (when appropriate) •Referencing little-known HP canon rather than just the obvious •Artwork/photos (where applicable) to demonstrate your entries
Pay close attention to instruction! It's easy to miss instructions and this can lead to points being detracted so double check. I would encourage you all to look at any active entries you may have as I've noticed this happening right now. It's not too late to take a look and edit as needed ;)
Submit a Member Taught Class. • These are actually really fun to write. I know that it can sound daunting at first but remember that there are various types of classes available and they need only be 250 words (which goes by fast, honestly!) Pick a subject you enjoy and go to town. • Remember that you won't be able to submit an entry for a class that you write. Play that to your advantage. If you dislike essay classes, make an essay class for others that you don't have to complete. Dislike practical lessons? Same thing! • You get to suggest the amount of points earned in the class. Be strategic. Right now we have more Ravenclaw members than Slytherin. The more points you offer, the more Ravenclaw's lead will add up. You want to get your 75 points for submitting without giving Ravenclaw too much of an advantage. So, lower points offered, high Slytherin reward for submitting the class. ;) • Information may be found at Member Taught Classes - Now&;s your time to teach!
Be active and charming! • New members might look through the Great Hall a bit before choosing a house and participating. Make sure we look good to them :)
