I really didn't know what to call the title. I'm making this thread after suggested it from Please close.

I'm not the one who noticed this issue so I don't know the details intimately, but I will post the related info from that thread:

I just noticed something, and I don&;t know if it counts as a consistency issue but thought I might post it anyway. I currently have my inventory sorted by item name in one tab and quick stock for my shop in the other. In my inventory, "Peach Basic Flats" appear before "Pea Soup Hooded Scarf" but it is the other way around in quick stock.

Seems like quick stock considers a space to take priority in alphabetical order over other characters, while inventory considers spaces last? It&;s really not a big deal, I doubt many people would ever even encounter it, but thought it was at least worth mentioning.

I&;ve noticed this a lot in various places on the site, inconsistencies in what is considered alphabetical order and how spaces or other non-letter characters get sorted.

Even numbers can be weird. Particularly with stickers, sometimes all of the ones that start with the number 1 will come before any that start with number 2 even if it&;s like 100 vs 20. It would make more sense for 20 to go first since it&;s a smaller number, but it seems like the computer only sees the 1 and the 2 and puts the 1 first.

This issue was noticed in 2017 so I don't know if it's fixed yet or even worth looking into. Thanks for reading!

also capital letters take priority over lowercase letters, regardless of their position in the alphabet. for example, SP Scented Candle will come before Salt.

I've been aware of this for years, I generally just ignore it as best as I can.

The issue with numbers though, is a fundamental computer problem. The usual sort simply compares digit to digit - so if it compares 12 and 3 and 267 it sorts as: 12 267 3

It doesn't "see" that 3 is the smallest, because its not looking at 12, 3 and 267 Its strictly looking at 1, 3 and 2.

There are ways around this limitation, but its not simple.

The major issue, as I see it, is that all the areas onsite that alphabetize should be using the same algorithm and that's not happening.

I've noticed this too - the ordering in the vault is different to the ordering in (new) shops, which makes it hard to compare the two sometimes.

The ordering of numbers (e.g. the various healing potions) in the vaults is pretty confusing as well, as noted above, but this works fine in (new) shops.

Yeah, if the numbers thing is too complicated to fix that's less of an issue. The main thing is having all areas of the site using the same method for alphabetical ordering so they're at least consistent everywhere. That would be really nice. :)
