Can't organize gallery, categories not working

I hope this is in the right place!
So I tried moving items in my gallery into their respective categories, but whenever I click "Update Items" I get this message:
Category names can only contain letters, numbers, and the following punctuation: spaces( ), dashes(-), underscores (_), commas (,) and exclamations (!)
But there's nothing wrong with my category names??? And when I hit the back button, none of the items are categorized (it's like I didn't just spend 10+ minutes organizing). Then a few times they would appear to be in their categories when I refresh and check the "Edit items" page, but then when I go to "View Gallery," all those very items are back to "No category" (aka front page of the gallery).
I tried clearing my cache, but it didn't do anything. This has been ongoing for a few days, and I'm getting frustrated. Is there a bug or issue going on with the galleries/shops, or is it just me? :/

Ah, sorry, should have specified. For my shop gallery, Afternoon Tea. I just tried to put an item in a different category and update, and I'm still getting the same message.

You have a category that uses an ampersand, which isn't an allowable character.
is correct. Try renaming your category and see if that resolves your issue.
I apologize for this inconvenience, but we've had to add some naming restrictions to categories for now, since some of these have a chance of breaking due to the way shops/galleries are stored in the database.

I replaced the "&" with "and." Everything seems to be working now. Thank you for the help!
