Hi, all!
I think I'm finally ready to try out this battle thing, and I've got the basic idea for what it entails, and how it works, and all that jazz. But I'm not sure on the best weaponry/healer/defensive items I should have.
Up until now, I've been training evenly-ish (except when I boosted my strength* a lot so dude could get a promotion). I think from here on, I'm going to focus on health and probably strength.
Current stats: Level: 22 Health: 28 / 28 Strength: 49 Defense: 34 Speed: 25 Intelligence: 81 AP: 5 Tier: 1 To Next Tier: 136 / 300
Any recommendations on where I should start would be great. I've already got one win under Presage's belt, but he got through that by the skin of his teeth.
There aren't many good weapons you can buy at T1, however there are a lot of cheap weapons that you can get. As you go higher in tiers, weapons will become more useful and expensive so it's better to buy cheaper weapons at lower tiers. That being said, there are some weapons that scale with your pet that you can buy at T1 and continue to use. is a good investment for a healer that can be used at T1 and will always be useful at higher tiers.
This weapon guide is a little outdated, but a good start for you to see what weapons exist at different tiers and gives a lot of examples for scaling weapons.
Scrolls are also very important so you will want to improve your pet's intel. AP is what is used to equip scrolls to your pet. The more AP you have, the more scrolls you can equip. Unlike weapons, scrolls are not limited by tier and cannot be stolen. AP can only be obtained every 16 intel points by reading a book. Meaning, you cannot obtain AP simply by using intel boosters.
link for most scrolls and how much AP each scroll takes up.
Thank you SO MUCH!! This is super helpful.
One more question...how many weapon sets should I have? Should I even do them? I know they're good for quick-equip, but I assume opponents are fairly varied.
Have as many weapon sets as you like. There's no penalty for it. Regular accounts have (I think) three and gold accounts get five, so next time you have a gold account you might want to make some extra weapon and scroll sets. They'll stick around even after the gold account expires.
Opponents aren't all that varied at low tiers. The things you need to keep in mind mostly are ones that disable healing (Coeli, Eclipse, Cursed Effigy) and ones that disable freezing (Daemon, Mama Mush, Chase, some others have a freeze protection buff that can activate as well). Those you might want to edit your set for on a per fight basis if you need to in order to beat them.
I like to do weapon sets because I have multiple battlers at different tiers. It’s easier for me to make tier-based default sets instead of swapping out weapons all the time. The easy and medium challengers don’t really vary that much in damage icons since they all tend to do a wide spread of icons.
The only thing you may want to consider is that some opponents have healing disabled like said so the quill of any other healers won’t work.
Oh! Okay. That's good to know about those guys. I learned about Coeli the hard way. lol And learned I am not ready to do the battle quests yet. sigh Should have known that before, buut...curiosity and all that. :P
I'm excited to build the weapon sets!! It's like a puzzle.
The battling here is slightly more complicated than I am used to elsewhere. cough But it's really cool to learn! I like it. Fully engaged thinking. Not just always-choose-this-and-this and win. Been awhile since I've been truly challenged. I really like it.
Thank you both so much for your help. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to respond and help me. :) <3
Also, posted a thank you to the "thank anonymous for gifts" board...but I wanted to post here too in case anonymous(es?) don't look there...

OMG ANONYMOUS(es)!!! THANK YOU!!! I still don't have the images thing down pat, but I can do the item hovers. Woohoo! Anyway. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Can't wait to test these with battling!!! You're the best!!!
You will be soon. The only ‘tricks’ to levels 1-5 are Coeli and Eclipse preventing healing. So all you need is enough health and block to take their attacks.
You might want to look into getting a Divine Denizhen Scroll to help. It blocks 3 of every icon, does 5% heal, and takes 7 AP. It can be made at the Secluded Shrine too.
Whoa. WHOA. That's a bomb scroll. Thank you! I will try to make that.
I'm currently mad-training health. So hopefully I can get there soon. I'm a bit impatient. Just a bit. :P
Seriously, oddly excited...
It’s a nice scroll, especially when you have so little health that the block is really valuable. Eventually, once your HP is high enough and you have weapons that do the blocking job, you’ll upgrade to a scroll like Aftershocks that gives some heal, some block, and some attack.
drools over knowledge
This is really fascinating.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm planning to really only have 1 battle pet. The others I'm training for job purposes. Would it make sense to do sets based on general baddie icon knowledge? What I mean is, would it be beneficial or helpful to have sets that covered NPCs who deal mostly water/earth damage, and then one set for fire? etc. If that makes sense. :P
ETA: Part of that was me thinking outloud, but if you have an opinion, I would love to know your thoughts. :)
In early tiers, not really. Except unless you were itching to make sets without a freezer or healer for fights where they were disabled. It’s a combination of there not being a lot of specific blocking/damage weapons for you to use and challengers being kind of all over the place in icons. You might want to later on when you start to get challengers that do a lot of their damage with one or two icon types.
Personally I do like Wesker does and have tier sets for different pets and only switch weapons on the fly for battle quests. But if I’m going for a bunch of wins at once or am pushing a tough challenger I’ll tailor my set to that fight for efficiency. But I’m like the laziest battler ever and push through with only enough strategy to make up for what I can’t brute force my way past.
You're welcome! It's ok, you can mention other sites here and not get in trouble ^_^ have fun battling! BTW, the shards that you got are single use only, meaning they will be discarded after one use and you will need to block more. The life shard will heal your pet while ice shard will block ice and the light shard will block light.
lol I'm also a lazy battler, so I'll probably do something similar to you. I don't want to have to put too much thought into it sometimes. Sure, sometimes I want to be challenged, but not always. Sometimes I just want to win. I like the idea of building a set without freezer or healer for the type of opponent, cause removing them/adding them back in sounds like a lot of work.
That's amazing...I wasn't sure if I could mention other sites. Cause. You know. >.> But like anyone would leave subeta for another site. This place is amazing. It's nice not having to heavily edit myself. And thank you for letting me know about the shards. I can't wait to test them out.
I was gone all weekend at the in-laws' cabin, so haven't been able to apply the new things I learned, or use my toys. Going to this week though. :D :D
