why is it only visible when i log out? is there a way to have it within the site when i'm logged in? (unless im dumb and there is a way to see it, in which you can lock the thread.) how also do the HA's get spotlighted? i've seen naked ones before, unless theres a reason Subeta wants to promote naked bases?

I think it just shows random HAs to show off what users can make with Subeta's avatar system, so sometimes naked bases show up. No one gets anything out of it, like with pet spotlight.

It is completely random, but only picks from users who were recently online and have a converted HA. But there are still a few users who meet that criteria and walk around naked, so the algorithm has a chance to pick them.
So it's not a contest and it's not like the pet spotlight where you have to enter and be judged. It just shows a random user's HA.
We don't really mind having it somewhere that logged in users can see, but we don't know where it would go. We do not want to put it on the news sidebar because that's already filled with important links and the news page is already a bit cluttered. It would make sense in the forums, since it's a community-related thing, but I can't think of anywhere it would actually fit into the page layout if that makes sense.

Maybe make the main site page (https://subeta.net) visible to users who are logged in? Right now, it automatically redirects to the news page.
Also, if that's done, a button to like the showcased HA would be handy. 👀
Centropolis' map has plenty of buildings that aren't linked to anything. How about making one of those a place for hosting fashion shows, and displaying spotlighted avatars there? Would fit nicely next to SubQ!

aaaa well i wasnt looking for a prize haha, but i was just wondering that it would be a weird impression to newcomers to see naked HAs upon stumbling across the site ("whats so spotlight-worthy eh?" i'd think, if i were new!) and also i'd kind of want to see clothed HAs for inspiration!
as for placement, i think a small section at the sidebar (the right side of the news page) might work? :3 ^ im dum

News page sidebar is already a no.
I have to agree. There is already a lot there. Somewhere to see avatar spotlight while logged in would be nice, but it's just for fun. Keep it out of the way where people who are curious can see it, and it doesn't add clutter to places with useful information.
Sidebar though... A widget might be neat, so people can add it if it's something they want to see. But are there still plans to remove widgets?
