Dragon Age: Origins

Let us discuss! I love the game to pieces, from the lore to the characters and depth of them. Loghain is a jerk.

Would love to find others who enjoy it as much as I!

banging pots and pans WELCOME TO HELL, WELCOME TO DRAGON AGE HELL! No but legit I LOVE the entire dragon age series and Origins is one of my favorite games! I must have played the entire game like... 3-4 times already.

I'm one of those losers who makes a warden they love very much and then continuously replays the game with the same character making the same choices and romancing the same love interest (RPG I AM ROLEPLAYING BITCH)

Who do you like to play as? Ah I'm a basic bitch tbh I always go human noble OTL

WHERE have you been all my life? Guilty as charged for multiple playthroughs as well. It's hard to nooot go back sometimes ugh.

Human is also my main, most times. :T Basic I've played other races just because I wanna know their intros (Except dwarf for some reason? No idea why I should fix that.)

Dragon age is like my safety game man if I have nothing else to play tis always a safe bet!

YEA HUMANZ RULE (jkjk I'm just way into the riches to rags scenario that the human noble goes through so much good stuff for rping) I'm the same I played through all the other intros even the dwarves origins which weren't that bad actually but I guess I'm just not a dwarf person usually.

Have you played dragon age 2 and inquisition?

AHHH I absolutely love Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age Inquisition!!

For Origins I love making human noble warriors to romance Alistair with, and just the whole game is so interesting and intriguing (I really need to get back to it lol) I do so many multiple playthroughs and don't always finish the game. For me it's about those romances XD more than the storyline.

I can recommend the dwarf noble or dwarf commoner storylines they are a lot of fun! Making characters is so much fun. I'd love to hear about you guys characters ^^

Have you played DAII or Inquisition?

I am finishing (yet another) playthrough of Origins right now actually haha! I am a basic bitch and choose the same romance and choices and origin almost every time (human noble, usually rogue but went with warrior this time, chasing down the handsome tattoo'd elf, though I adore Alistair too). I have played all the origins though, they're probably some of my favourite parts of the game -- so you should definitely go and play the dwarf origins, even if you don't do an actual playthrough with those characters. You discover a lot actually.

I have also played II and Inquisition many times over as well, and love them both. Origins is probably my favourite (it was one of the first big RPG's I ever played), but I love all of them.

I agreeeeee. It's my go-to game when I just want to play something I had been quite the opposite at first- played the poor and feeble city elf. Dwarves never seemed like my type of character, but I still want to give them a try eventually. (But Sandal is my son i love that kid so much)

Yeahhhh the romances are really great. They make the storylines so different each time. I killed Zevran for the fist time ever the other day and was so surprised to see that not one out of Alistair, Morrigan, or Sven cared or tried to stop it. Like...not even Sven??) Morrigan is the love of my life ;-; (don't tell my wife) It has been ages since I actually played fully through II, and I've yet to get far in Inquisition. But they're on my to-do list still!

I only have one character of my own outside the games, and he's still in the works with fitting him well into a backstory. How about you? (:

(I love your name btw, makes me think of my Redguard Imperial <3 ) I'm convinced! I'll have to start up a dwarf asap. Do they tie in with the "A Paragon of Her Kind" quest for the dwarves? I love their politics, and I don't even like human politics. Same with the first RPG here. It's so memorable, I can never see how people dislike it?

I just finished my first recent playthrough of Dragon Age Origins with Alistair. I try to romance someone else, but I just love him so much, he's so sweet. I love Zevran too. The different outcomes depending on who you romance are different. Sten! Morrigan is awesome! They are all awesome in their own way.

My favourite however is still the dog lol

I just made a few characters. Brienne Aeducan, the feisty, rogue dwarf,And Earendil, the Dalish Elf, who is mystical and mysterious, who I hope to train as a ranger so her affinity with animals can help her summon them during big battles. I just finished the game with Elizabeth Cousland.

Definitely I can recommend the dwarf storylines. The dwarf noble one definitely ties into A Paragon of her kind because of what goes down in the origin storyline, not sure about the commoner dwarf one I haven't done that one for awhile.

I love the RPG type thing. DAII was really hard for me, so I only did finish one playthrough, where DAI is a lot easier for me, but there is so much to do. Whereas Origins is pretty easy and quick. They're fun! And I love how each decision changes the outcome at the end.

Finally some good food. Origins is and will forever be my jam ;; I love the entire series (despite having more than a few beefs with it), but Origins will have that special place in my heart Q ^ Q

I.. still haven't played the game on PC since I only now have a laptop strong enough to run any games, I should actually get to it so I can finally mod my game to hell and back.

What kinda wardens all yall have?

YESSS I LOVE the Dragon Age series, as you can see from my pet Commander of the Grey~ Origins is my happy place and uhgg I love it so much I can't coherently express my love enough. I haven't played through Origins in a while but I've been meaning to for a while. I still want to finish my Dwarven noble playthrough. Also I can believe you killed Zev; I can never manage to make myself choose the "evil" options. :(

UHHGGG THE FADE. I found out that Matt Mercer voiced a character in Origins (Niall) and could not, for the life of me, remember who that was...until I finally remembered that he was the one who was stuck in the Fade.

My two favorite wardens: Chelle Cousland: A noble warrior; Queen of Fereldan and Warden Commander. Xerrin Mahariel: A rogue who holds the power of magic and elves over anything else. (I can't remember if I romanced Morrigan or Zevran...I think it was a Morrigan first and then left her for Zevran situation.) Also my darling city elf, but it was so long ago I made her that I can't remember her name. ;-;

Have any of you guys read any of the novels/comics?

OMG yes~! I love all of the Dragon Age games though Origins and Inquisitions have been the ones I've replayed the most.

Glad to know I'm not the only one modding the fade sequence every single time after the first couple of time playing it in Origins. XD It was torture!

Honestly, I suggest playing the games on PC. you can get better graphics (or enhancement with mods) plus the mods to make the experience more interesting at times hehe As for wardens, I always to back to my original warden, Ruby Brosca, my dear silent but savage rogue dwarf of long white hair. I didn't know what I was getting into when I picked the dwarf commoner storyline, but I honestly loved it the most after checking everyone's (though the dalish is a close one too). Oh also, I love the look of your avatar. ^^

I have all the books and comics in my wishlist but I don't know which book to begin with. I surprise myself that I haven't read any of the books when I'm a book fanatic. Do you have any recommendations on which to start with?

That depends on what you like really! Since you've played all the games the order you read them in doesn't matter a lot, but what lore/settings/characters you like the most will influence which books you'll be the most interested in~! All the books switch between the perspectives the protagonists and antagonists which I absolutely love.

Since I'm going off memory I'll probably forget some stuff, but here is a bit about each book and what notable characters they feature (in chronological order): 1) The Stolen Throne takes place early Dragon Age; it's centered around Maric (and Rowan and Loghain) and his reclaiming of the Ferelden throne. I read this one first and after reading all the others it's still my favorite. 2) The Calling takes place about 10-20 years after that, I think? It introduces the Architect and ends with the birth of Alistair. Maric, Fiona, and The Arcitect are the main characters. Also I cried like three times reading this even though I knew exactly what I was in for; another great book. -Events of DA Origins and Awakening...also DA2?- I can't remember if the first series of comics takes place after or before DA2, but they're next regardless. 3) The Silent Grove, Until We Sleep, and Those Who Speak are the names of the sets of comics. Each one is narrated by a different main character (Alistair, Isabela, and Varric respectively). The three of them set off on a quest to find out King Maric's fate. Since this takes place in Bioware's canon Alistair is the current King of Fereldan. If you love lore you will love these. Seriously there is soooo much in them: Bianca, Isabela's backstory, and Sten makes an appearence as well! (And way more than just that...) 4) The Masked Empire takes place in, you guessed it, Orlais and sets up the civil war between Gaspard and Celene. It also shows a lot about Celene and Briala's relationship annnd the eluvians. 4) Asunder is the direct prequel to Inquisiton since it mainly deals with the mages of Orlais and their vote for independence. Near-ish to the end the civil war has broken out so this and The Masked Empire take place at about the same time. It's protagonists are Rhys, Evangelene, and Cole and I don't think it is ever from Wynne's perspective, but she is also in it. This one is probably a very close second for me if not tied for favorite. 5) Last Flight switches between the events of the Fourth Blight (from the perspective of Garahel's sister, Isseya), and the story of Valya an elven mage who took refuge at Weisshaupt from the Mage-Templar war along with some others from her circle. I am only about a quarter of the way through this one so that's all I got. I think this takes place at the same time as Inquisition, but it could have a time skip somewhere in it and go beyond that. -Inquisition- 6) Magekiller and Knight Errant are the names of the sets of the current comic series. Since there were three sets before I am assuming there will be one more that will come out sometime early next year? I'm pretty sure the first or second volume of Magekiller ends with the explosion at the conclave just to give you an idea of time. Dorian and Leliana make an appearence in the Magekiller series and Sebastian makes an appearance in Knight Errant (oh and Varric and King Alistair if I'm remembering correctly). He is actually on the cover of the last comic and it is my favorite of the Knight Errant covers~

They also released Hard in Hightown this year. I haven't got that one yet, but I assume it's just the book that Varric wrote.

TL;DR The ones written by David Gaider are, unsurprisingly, the best. (The Stolen Throne, The Calling, Asunder, and the first series of comics.)

Thank you for the detailed list and description! I truly appreciate it <3 I have been eyeing the Stolen Throne and The Calling the most since I've heard they're going to release new editions this year so I guess I just have to get them as soon as they're out! I was confused with the Magekiller and Knight Errant comics since I didn't know if it tied with the lore at all, but now that you tell me that we do have cameos of some of the greatest characters, I guess I'll have to give them a try hehe

New editions?! 😱 Welp, now I know what to ask for my birthday/xmas~! Magekiller and Knight Errant don't give a whole lot more lore-wise, but they do nice world building (we get to see a bit of Starkhaven) and a lot of backstory on some new characters. I was theorizing that the main characters of the comics are going to be companions in the next game.

The first time I played origins I was 100% listening to Morrigan and definitely wiped out the mage tower and had no idea Wynne was even a possible companion. After understanding the world I was like "omg how could I have killed all those innocent mages?!"

Leliana and Sten are both in Lothering at the beginning of the game. Leliana is in the tavern and is part of that cutscene. When you're leaving the town into that big open field area Sten is in the cages along the fence to the left as you're leaving. Sten is definitely easy to miss. I think the only reason that I found him was a NPC or a party member made a comment about a Qunari in a cage. Zevran is definitely a blessing~
