Medicontra has a great selection of disability wearables, but I gotta say I'm a little disappointed by the wheelchairs. They're really clunky; most people that regularly use chairs don't use anything with such a high back or handles like that! That would get really uncomfortable, hahah. If someone can support their upper body, they're much more likely to use a chair with a smaller back so they can twist around more easily, and no armrests to get in the way of their mobility.

>This< is the sort of wheelchair in more common use outside of medical facilities; I'd love to see something like it for HAs!

I don't think this is possible.

The artists are constrained; the image of the HA is in a standing position. The high backs may be un-real, but the base of the HA is seriously chibified to start with so "real" isn't what's happening with anything wearable here in any case. The high backs are a necessary part of the trompe l'oeil.

The folks I have seen with wheelchairs like you mention? They don't blanket their leg or legs (if they have them) like in NPC Selena's Medicontra chairs either. Given a choice between some representation and no representation, I think a very good job was done.

Schlock Mercenary is a webcomic with futuristic hover-cherry-picker thingies for the lower-extremity-disabled or otherwise just plain short sophonts. Maybe NPC Blackmoon can make a sleek futuristic one, or NPC Nico can make a bionic one, or NPC Rochelle can make a zombified one?

On the contrary, many people still use blankets. When you aren't using the muscles in your legs, they can get cold quickly; it's really common. Maybe the majority of people in chairs don't bother, but a bunch of others do.

I'm not saying anyone didn't do a good job, or that I would prefer the wheelchair we have to not be there, don't get me wrong. I'm stoked by the majority of the items in Medicontra, but it just seems silly to have the hospital wheelchairs without the more common equivalent for regular chair-users.

I don't really see the necessity of high backs and handles in the art...? Really, you could just tweak the art to be the exact same minus the upper half of the chair back and the armrests, and it would be exactly what I'm talking about.

I think the high back and armrests are there because it is harder to make the HA look like it is sitting without those things. But honestly I am not sure.

When I first read this I was like "iunno, some things are there to cover the HA..." but looking at the ones on site, I think it would be very much doable as the main thing covering/altering the bottom is the blanket, which would still be there. I hope this can be done in the future !

If someone else wanted to get a quick and easy look of how the current wheelchairs are designed on avatars right now: [preview=Wheelchair with Dignified Blanket] I'd think that a lower back and no bars could be doable and it'd still be fine (but, I am no artist.). :d

And, since it's sort of related, those padded, fingerless wheelchair gloves might not be a bad addition either? We already have gloves, of course, but I thought I'd mention it.
