Respect Your Cat Day

Held every year on 28 March, Respect Your Cat Day celebrates all those fabulous felines in our lives. There is a reason this animal was already worshipped and considered sacred by ancient Egyptians. The cat goddess Bast (also known as Bastet) was the deity representing protection, fertility, and motherhood.

And until today, our feline companions can twist us around their little paws in love and mischief. Aren´t they the best companions ever, always there for you, in good times as in bad, alsways soothing? I wouldn´t know what to do without my little time thieves......

Cat Challenges

There are 3 possibilities to gain a raffle ticket and you are able to net 3 at all when completing all tasks.

1. Design a HA with a cat companion or surrounded by cats or in a cat outfit (or all of them if you want).
2. Post a pic of your feline goddess(es) at home or if you aren´t owned by cats a pic of the cat you would like to live with.
3. Tell us a little story about your cat or cats or tell us something about their character which is typical feline or dear to you. If you don´t be so fortunate to have a cat companion now, tell us what you would look for in a cat, may it affection, playfulness or beauty, intelligence or independance or whatever intrigues you.

Also: spend some quality time with your cat(s), get them a new toy, pet them, offer them a special treat and generally make them happy and give them some extra love with a Meowjito! <3

Outfit Not Found My experience with cats was depressing so for the second question I'm not looking forward to own/live with any cats xD especially reading up on a story of my friend telling her depressing cat lives which makes me wanna cry every time I read them.. so yea.. :/ I do see some cute ones when browsing my facebook! for the third question, I'd get a cat who is 1. cute, and 2. obedient and not naughty :P

The first one is Burrito, he loves attention 24/7 and can't get enough of being pet. He gets so into it that he occasionally rolls and falls off the couch.

My other cat is Jasmine, she always looks angry but is actually very happy. She's very skittish around new people, but once she gets to know and allows you to pick her up, she cuddles right in.

Kitten my number one cat, he has been with me forever, almost 13 years now I think. He is always sleeping which I feel like is cat like. He sleeps in my arms every night too. :) under the covers at that. If I don’t let him sleep in my arms, he will paw at the covers or my head until I do lol!! He loves tuna and wet food the most ^^ He also used to share ice cream cones with me

Enter Minx! Still just a kitten she has no tail and she don’t care. She loves lounging with her belly hanging over. She is indeed the family pet because we got her a week before our wedding! She is very curious, having killed a snake and eating things she isn’t supposed to. She has an attitude but if you get on her good side she loves to sit in your lap and get lots of loving.

This ha is designed around two of my cats who died in the last two years. The gray cat a friend found as a kitten lost under a bush after a hurricane almost 20 years ago. She was 19 when she died. The other was a Siamese that some couple had the nerve to dump at a pound when they got divorced.... that cat used to follow me around the yard, helping me by attacking grass and twigs, lol.

This is Speak, my lynx point Siamese. He passed last May 18th at the vet's office in my arms and I'm still not over it. He had renal failure and decompensated really quickly. He was one of the most affectionate cats I've ever had, but also very bitey sometimes because he had that feline hyperesthesia syndrome and if you didn't see it coming on him watch out! He also had terrible vision. I miss him so bad.

I've had other cats but their pictures are on photobucket, boo, and I haven't moved them to imgur yet. There's a video of Asterix on youtube--he had a sudden heart attack in 2015 which is why he's no longer with me.

Asterix was super smart but he also liked to chase things. He loved it when I'd watch figure skating and ice skating, batting at the TV screen.

The first cat I ever had was Tissriel, a grey tabby cat. She loved bread. You had to keep it locked up or she'd tear open the bag and eat it. Nobody wants to eat bread that is covered in cat bites! She lived to be 19.

I am currently wanting to get a new cat. I want a healthy one this time though. Taking care of Speak and Asterix, who were special needs cats, was wonderful and I wouldn't give up a minute I spent with them. (Asterix had feline diabetes, which was cured by diet, which is why it was such a shock when something else so random took him away.) And all cats become special needs cats with age.

But I need at least a few years of a break from crying and paying $1000 vet bills, so please wish me luck in finding a happy, healthy young cat in the near future.

I don't often do realistic HAs that more or less depict my actual self, but here ya go. Cat story

I don't know, I can't think of any really great stories to tell, so I'll just tell you about when I got her. As you can see, my cat and dog are great friends now, but it wasn't so encouraging at the start. Zelda is a real DOG dog and I had no idea how she'd react to a kitten, but my last dog loved cats so I knew they could cohabitate. My friend had a batch of kittens to give away and I just couldn't resist this one little Siamese floof. So I took her home and introduced them. Zelda snuffled her a bit, licked her and immediately began drooling...looking at the kitten like I'd just brought her a tasty snack. You could see it in her eyes: same expression as when I'm opening a can of dog food. Nooo Zelda! So as a tiny, helpless cottonball, Moon spent a lot of time curled up on my desk out of harm's way (in that favorite place of all cats, on or in the way of the computer keyboard), or in a separate room when I couldn't supervise. But I kept letting them have short, supervised interactions and eventually, Zelda figured out the cat was to be her sister, not her dinner. Now they cuddle and play together all the time. :)

Cat day is the best day! HAs surrounded by kitties are one of my favorite type of HAs ;)

My Baby: Is judging you

Kitty Story When we first brought her home from the shelter we had another cat (RIP) so we closed her into the Master Bedroom when we weren't home so they could safely get to know each other. Her on one side of the door and him on the other. Well, she didn't like being stuck in the room so in protest she would pull the blankets off the bed and drag them over to the door. To this day, even though she's not 'stuck' in the room any more now and then when she get angry enough she'll go in the bedroom and pull the blankets off the bed.

The beautiful pictures above are my sweet and sassy girl Luna. The story behind her comong to live/rule our home is quite interesting (at least it is to me)

A cat that I dearly loved passed away, his name was Oscar. He live 14 wonderful years. I was so sad without him my husband agreed that maybe I needed another cat to start over with. I was all for opening my heart to another cat but at the same time I just knew they would never fill the void left by Oscar. I was checking out Facebook listings and came across to a little black kitten, about 4 months old. The listing said that the individuals interested would have to meet the kittens standards, at the time this seemed...odd. Soon I would understand completely.

When I got to the home where this girl loves I met her current mommy Michelle who happens to be Wiccan. She explained that the kitten was a familiar. Being Christian and not understanding Wicca beliefs yet still slightly understanding what it meant for her to be a familiar left me intrigued. I came into her home which house not 1 other cat or kittens but 4 cats and 2 other kittens. 1 kitten they were keeping (because it "chose" her daughter) and the other hid under the couch. But not the little black kitten, no she came right up to me (which was a good sign) Michelle explained that familiars choose their people. Unless the kitten wanted to go with us she wouldnt. So I sat down on the couch and went to pick her up. She wouldn't have it and trotted away. Michelle told me just to visit with her and see what happens. So we talked, for nearly an hour, about halfway though our visit the kitten hopped up into my lap and went to sleep. When we had exhausted our conversation Michelle smiled and told her family to come look. Apparently the kitten had never had anything to do with anyone. I was the first human she wanted to sit with. She had passed over 2 other people. She picked me! So we loaded up and brought her home. Since then there have been so many occasions where Luna would do things that showed she was very compassionate and in tune to my feeling. A big thing ahe does is when I am having a bad pain day (7 surgeries in the past 7 years including 3 back surgeries) is to climb onto by lower back when I'm laying down and she just sits there applying the pressure from her weight, no matter how bad my pain it goes away. She has also warned me of panic attacks before they happen. She always stays by my side until the worst is over. She is hands down the best cat I've ever owned. She isn't just a cat, she is a friend, a protector, a nurse. I love her so much and treat her like the queen she is.

This is Raimundo aka Rai Rai. Here he was photo bombing his doggy brothers who he loved so much.

Rai was THE sweetest kitty I've ever known and I miss him so much as he crossed the rainbow bridge within a few weeks of this photo. (January 2018) He was a rescue that graced us with his presence for about 11 years. Shortly after this photo his back legs stopped working and for several weeks we carried him around to eat, use the bathroom and sleep on the bed. But when he stopped eating we knew it was time to say good-bye.

Hurray for cats! ^^ Private Outfit My roommate's cat looks similar to this one. ^^ She's lovely but very much a scaredy cat! She likes hiding under tables, particularly when she thinks someone is going to come into the house. She also spooks easily when I'm on skype near her. XD Finally, she begs for food from everyone she comes across so we're thinking of starting a chart so we know when she's been fed. Heh.

Aww she's beautiful. Yeah I'm not really sure my little hellion has a favorite person (although I've heard that it's common for torties to have one person they really like). She HATES being pet/touched and isn't shy about drawing blood over - she's starting to get better about it now. She, just within the past month, decided that sitting on my lap is okay as long as I don't touch her - it's sad how happy that's making me lol

We used to have a wonderful kitty (RIP) who looked a bit like your Rai Rai. Let me get you a pic: And believe it or not he actually enjoyed wearing the feathers :D

Today I want to introduce my cats to you, some might already know them, some not, so here they are!

My oldest cat at the time being is Neele. She is the last one out of my Norwegian Forest Breeding program back then. Neele is 14 years old and a real cat, she wants you to do her biding and to have her way in any case. She never is sick and has the most awesome white milky teeth. She is affectionate when it comes to humans yet very picky with feline companions and if she chooses a friend, it´s always a male one.

Alas, all friends of Neele have crossed the rainbow bridge now, Tana being the last in autumn.

Now Neele thinks she lives surrounded by aliens aka three Balineses which she ogles critically and finds them suspicious. :-) They behave like dogs, always in the middle of attention, fetching toys, walking by heel, talking all day.

Our oldest Balinese is Lihue with 8 years, a lilac tortie one and a rescue cat out of a kitten mill. It astonishes me every day anew that she never lost her trust in humans. She is beautiful, ethereal, talkative and loves to cuddle on the couch with us.

Palila is a 6 year old sealtortie Balinese who was a gift from a friend, totally unexpected, and that what´s her name means, too, a gift given from the heart. She is a clown, always up to mischief yet cuddly nevertheless and she sleeps in my arms at night, cheek to cheek. She is the best with walking by heel, she could do it all day. Palila suffers from feline asthma and is allergic to pollen yet with treatment, she lives a happy liife.

Palila and Lihue are good friends yet her best friend is Malu who was adopted by us in November to help Palila cope the loss of her beloved Tana (we thought Neele would perhaps fall in love with him, too, yet not so far….).

Malu is 6 months old now and a lilac-tabby Balinese. Big and heavy for a Balinese of this age, 5 kg. He is the best little kitten you can imagine, playful, talkative, affectionate, cuddly, a little bit crazy like all kits yet very tame. Even when he doesn´t like things he let you pick him up for them, virtuous. LOL

I have mostly videos of him yet going to make many pics in the future and pester you with them. I couldn´t take much pics in winter bc I would have to use flashlight and he had a haw syndrome caused by a tritrichomonas infection he suffered from in the beginning. There will be more to come!
