nevermind apparently posting here fixed the problem...
- Links expire after a certain period of time (30 minutes I think?) to keep people from auto refreshing. The next time you run into that message, just go back to the forums and click to get a fresh link.
I had refreshed the forum page about 8 times and it still said expired.. not sure what was going on with that.
Can you please share where the dance link is? Like, link to the specific forum post?

Okay so it's just a problem with dance links and not the dance buttons next to each forum post, right?
It also should not be an issue with dance links in forum signatures, correct? And I think it's only for the FIRST post of that topic, right?
Note for future reports: Please specify clearly exactly what the dance link is and where it is located, otherwise I don't know where to investigate.

It's the links in the first post/all posts and not the dance link under the peoples' HAs if that's what you wanted to know. And it's the same for all five dance links in this thread. Haven't tested signature links yet. Yesterday I could use the links just fine. Now even refreshing the page gives me an error message. The only way to get the links to work is self ping me, go to the news page and then back to the thread. Whiich...is a bit much of a workaround for a simple dance? ORZ
For me its been from the signature links thoughout the thread. I've just tried the dance button, and that has worked fine.

The issue is with the cache time, so I was trying to figure out which specific part of the cache needed to be decreased for the event. I think I have figured it out though (it was just forum posts as far as I can tell) and I've deployed an update. Please allow 2 hours for everything to fully uncache.
As a workaround, you can let the posters of the forum topics know, they can force the cache to refresh by editing their first post (click the Edit Post button and then click Submit, you don't actually need to change any of the text.)

I get the expired link error message. I cleared my browser cache, and also waited the 2 hours you suggested in the post above. Still getting the error. Both links were working fine yesterday.

I am having this problem also. I can't seem to dance with anyone as I only get an expired link Urgh Please fix this
Oh that's really interesting. So they work from Recent Posts, but not from the post itself in the forum topic?
Side note, did you send the correct links? I don't see any dance links in either of the places you linked. The post you linked doesn't have any dance links in it, but there is a dance link in your signature, is that what you meant?
If you read the topic, you can see we are trying to fix it, and even attempted a fix. Unfortunately it's not easy or clear what is causing the problem right now. However, the dance buttons under the HAs on the Masquerade forum should work fine if you need a workaround to still dance with people.

Yes, I did link to the wrong post - it should be the very first post at the top of the third page. It wasn't my signature I was talking about.
However - the links in the post now seem to be working, I just tested it. Correction - the link worked ONCE, then gave the error message again. The link in the recent posts page is still working though.
LOL the link to my recent posts WAS correct at the time I posted it, but that was many, many, many posts ago. Its now moved to near the top of page 4. https://subeta.net/forums.php/recent/posts/124125/4
Also, other links don't seem to be timing out correctly. Depending on if I click on a dance= link in my notepad, profile, dashboard friend list or forum posts. I just haven't been able to figure out what's timing out when, if at all.

I've been having this issue all weekend. I thought maybe it just didn't like my phone but now I'm on a computer and it's the same thing. I open the page and click on the shortlinks for dancing in signatures and in the post and no matter what I do I get an expired link. I even cleared my own cache and did a hard refresh...still, can't use the shortcodes and this makes me sad!
THIS LINK is where was last attempting the dance shortcode links in siggys and in the OP but it's been a problem for me on other threads too.

My original problem was happening where I made a list of links to my various friends to dance with them (some of them haven't posted on the Masquerade forum so that workaround wouldn't help with them). But when I edit the post usually it fixes it temporarily, so I just keep editing when it breaks...
