so im new (first day) and im having fun in the wardrobe, but i cant seem to get the eyes and mouths to work...

I'm guessing your eyes and mouth layers are underneath the base of your human avatar...? There are individual layers for the base, eyes, mouth, nose, etc. You should be able to drag and drop the eyes and mouth layers so that they fall above the base layer--and after doing that, the eyes and mouth should become visible on the base.
