Problem: At the moment when a skin is selected in the wardrobe the only way to tell which is currently being worn is to look at/pull the base layer to the top. There's no "feedback" in terms of a UI change and skins don't show on the base in the item preview next to the full HA.
This causes a particular problem during the survival event. When people want to check they're going to bite a user with a specific skin but their current infection overlays/hides the base (the incubating infection is part of the base layer, so there's no way to "look under" it). As a result, people worry that they may infect someone with the wrong virus because they can't visually confirm which skin they're wearing.
Suggestion: An easy visual indicator would be a border around an active skin's preview image (on the skins page). Alternatively, the item preview could have the HA wearing the skin, which would also be nice to easily see whether items go with the skinned base. I'd imagine that requires a lot more coding though, so I don't know how feasible it would be.
Overlay recolours/edits here (closed to new orders)This would be great. My suggestions were going to be both of yours, either a border or an indicator along the clothing choices/base/features that a skin has been chosen.
I tend to unclick the "remove skin" button a couple of times first just to be sure, but every time I'm a little nervous because there's no way to tell right now whether I've got a skin on or not, as the virus stage image covers both skin and background.
An indication would be fantastic definite support here!

Yeah, I would support something like this! Especially some of the viruses like Song/Fevermore that white out everything behind the hex for certain progression stages, you really can't tell what other skin you're wearing underneath.
It would definitely be nice to have a clear indication of which skin you are actively using.
