SPOILER (click to toggle) Yay. The first couple of episodes were a little ehh but I liked it overall. I like the OP too. Hate what happened to Miki. I legitimately thought he was going to save her. Then she took that knife to the back. She and Akira deserved better. No happy ending for anyone.

It slightly stirred an interest in me to read Nagai's work.

Yay looking at it as an original work, nay as an adaptation, I wouldn't mind the differences so much if wasn't for the fact that most scenes were downgraded/ruined in Crybaby, specially that end, I've always thought the original end is literally perfect 😞

I.e., it was a super fun watch and would definitely recommend but manga >> Crybaby.

I feel the same way, but to me it became predictable after a while, so I was prepared for it. It was still shocking to actually see it happen the way it did.

Did it really mess up the ending that much? I read a bit about Nagai's original manga, and I thought they hardly altered the ending. Considering I haven't actually read the manga, I'm probably wrong tho.

Also there is a sequel to Devilman called Devilman Lady. I haven't read that one either. Think it will get animated as well?

Lil' spoiler ahead Actually, not really, is just that I really, really liked it (although I wasn't the only one mad at it), what they fucked up in reality was the character. Satan's speech and behaviour is a little and at the same time a lot different in the manga. This, the fact that Crybaby's Ryo is an emotionless, heartless person (he's just a normal human in the manga) and they removing a super important part from the final speech made him look like a selfish being for me, thanks to that I couldn't give a damn about his suffering. Dear Lord, I write too much
I've been telling myself to read Lady and Shin since forever :/ I don't think it will get adapted or it would be announced already, although it might be soon.

Devilman No Uta is part of my DNA. Really enjoyed the anime. It's far from being a holy grail but I loved the style, unique animation and some characters were great. I kind of wish that you don't need to rewatch more than once to fully get the picture.

SPOILER (click to toggle) I decided to read through the ending of the manga for comparison. I think you are right. The two Satans are very different from each other when you look at each of them indivually, and original Satan is much more relatable. They are both very human in a way tho. I originally thought that the crybaby Satan was supposed to be based off "Elliot"(http://blog.idonethis.com/emotions-work/), tho I have no way of proving it. He claims he does not feel emotions and that his thought are purely logical. If that were true, he would be unable to function, and I thought crybaby showed it pretty well. He had emotions all along, but never noticed them. He was also the perfect example of someone who did everything for his own gain and pleasure without feeling guilty. Manga Satan was, on the other hand, much easier to relate to. The reason he did what he did was love. He wanted to defend what he loved, which were demons, earth and Akira, and was willing to destroy something else in the process. That is what a lot of us did at some point in our life, and that's why we feel compassion towards him. In a sense, I also felt like his suffering was a bit unjust compared to crybaby Satan, because he actually regrets ALL of his actions, and not just killing Akira.

tl;dr original Satan is, indeed, more relatable.

Ah yes, the jam nobody can get enough of. :^)

Thanks for reminding me of such important part of the show, . The entire OST is godly, specially Buddy, Ryo and Judgement, and I've listened to Devilman no Uta way more times than it's sanely recommended.

SPOILER (click to toggle) The Elliot story is pretty interesting and even though I found nothing linking this and Crybaby on the super quick search I did, yeah, there was probably an inspiration from this case or other similar. As someone that didn't know about this I saw Crybaby's Satan as a different way to explore the "do demons have emotions or not" theme and also give it more focus. In the anime Ryo is confident demons don't have them (IIRC, in the manga he never acts as if he's certain as much as in Crybaby) and then in the end we have Satan himself realizing his own emotions. However I think both Satans did everything for love, with the difference that manga's Satan was conscious of the true reason for his actions (although many of Crybaby's more specific actions was still over lack of emotions) . But just like you said, the problem lies on how he seems to angst only over Akira's death, so even if we do see a "human-like" Satan at that moment it's not the kind of human we would relate, cheer for. [sub]I know it's a terrible story and I'm probably the only one here that watched the adaptation but Hiro from Inuyashiki is a pretty good example of this.[/sub]

Haven't watched or read anything else from Devilman but Devilman Crybaby was a yay for me. It definitely was not perfect but it also had its good points too. The OST was amazing.

ARE WA DAREDA, DAREDA, DAREDA

I hope you have heard D.V.M.N. and Crybaby too because they're quite godly as well.

I regret watching it because I was definitely not in the right mindset. I loved the animation so I watched to the end, but it repulsed me quite a bit. :P I should not have watched it sleep deprived. A very good story, I thought, though I've never read the manga! And it was refreshing to see something soooo different from what I've been watching lately... a reminder that there are still weird and beautiful things being made for us to enjoy hehe.

SPOILER (click to toggle) Satan's character was obnoxious to me, it was a little better after he "became" satan but in general he was a drag to listen to.

I really liked Crybaby, though I think my favorite Devilman anime was the 1972 villain-of-the-week cartoon. It's a lot more easier on the eyes than Crybaby...if you don't mind awful subtitles and subpar animation.

I've listened to the whole thing as soon as it came out, those two were the ones that grabbed my attention the most the first time but not only the entire OST is worth listening but there are too many songs that deserve a highlight.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, though it took me until episode 5 to really get hooked... which felt unfortunate for something only 10 episodes long. Soundtrack was amazing and the animation was... sort of hard to get used to but also fantastic at times. I wish the characters had more development but I liked most of them! I reaaally could've done without the gratuitous sexual stuff (it was super awkward to watch, especially since I tried to watch the first few episodes together with my mom... we did not make it farther than the 2nd one, lol), but other than that, I really liked the rest. It was a lot of fun and I thought the way it all ended was pretty perfect. Very great ride with some amazing emotional moments and twisty parts. Also, this topic has me inspired to give the manga a shot when I have some time. c:

I really enjoyed it. Loved the animation and visuals and the story. I hate how it ended but I mean not everything can have a good ending unfortunately :c also I completely adored that group of rappers <3 but I definitely recommend it to anyone over 18, and people who are okay with sexual themes and gore!

I was shocked when I started watching it. I don't mind the adult themes or gore, I just had no idea what I was getting into haha. :P I have only seen a few episodes and I wasn't super into it but I looked up the ended and now I think I want to finish it. It's definitely not boring lol.
