According to various sources, Groundhog Day originated in German speaking areas of Europe. The badger was the forecasting animal but, as there weren't any badgers in the US, German settlers chose groundhogs as a suitable replacement.
Veta Lake has German settlers so I thought it would be fun if Gunther used a suitable burrowing animal to do a forecast. It could just be an announcement rather that anything fancy. Obviously far too late for this year.
Gunther is all laid back and vegan nowadays so with all the beer and ale he drinks the actual day he reports the forecast isn't necessarily the day it happened. So it's not too late. Subeta leans away from RL holidays though.
It is odd for anyone in Subeta to talk about the weather, presumably Tempest comes on by and you play with her and she may tell you her plans for the day? And February staff is gearing up for Survival and don't really need one-more-thing.
I don't know how fun this would be. All of Alegarten is pretty dang Germanic and it's going to be a summer holiday now and not a spring one. Maybe Gunther could comment then about "how soon winter will come" instead?
It would be named after a Subetan animal. Christmas is now Luminaire, Easter is now Vesnali and Survival took the place of Valentine's Day with Louis L'Amour dealing with the romance side of things - R/L holidays were changed, not abandoned.
I was just thinking of something simple like Gunther making a news post.
Or it could be a prediction for how good a summer it will be. If the animal sees it's shadow, summer will be delayed or something like that.
If we're going to add another "holiday" I would hope we add something that's neither western nor european.
Something inspired by an African, Asian etc holiday would be amazing. The holidays we have already are pretty.. American..
It's not meant to be a holiday. The Groundhog Day tradition originated with German settlers. Maybe Gunther could do a variation of this as an announcement to go with his new summer festival. "The (burrowing animal) predicts a great summer so come along to Veta Lake"
The only Subetan holiday that seems American is the Atebus Ball commemorating the Atebus Revolution. Luminaire is the old Christmas, Vesnali is the old Easter, and Survival the old Valentine's Day. These real life holidays are celebrated all over the world by Christians.

Ok, in that case I meant a non-Christian, non-western, non-european based holiday/tradition. How about floating lanterns once a year? Or something like holi?
I'm not against more lore-building days or holidays, I'm just saying that we could use more diversity in the traditions. The groundhog day idea sounds good and fits with the Gunter theme (hell it could even just be like "Oatmeal has started shedding it's winter coat, time for ___!"), I just meant going forward I'd like more stuff from other places.
The floating lanterns could be a Shengui Guo holiday.

Yeah, I think it would fit well, especially since we don't have a Shengui Guo based holiday (I think).

Elwood makes a post every April First, and that's all he does, other than recently popping up in the ... plot ... for ... something. I don't remember. Anyway, my point is, I could see that being a thing.
