My pets are currently tier 4. I started training them unevenly as a way to power them through as many Morostide wins (when I rejoined) as possible. I didn't notice any issues with having a low speed stat, so I kept training that way. Now they're taking on Hard opponents, and I still don't see any issues with it. Neither my pets' nor my opponents' crit rate seems to be an issue and I don't really bother with curses/blessings. Because of that I plan to continue training unevenly for at least a bit longer. I like fighting with say tier 5 stats while spending Exp at tier 4 prices. (It makes purchased opponents just a bit more valuable.)
What I'm looking for is "down the road" advice. How important is speed versus the strongest opponents? Am I going to regret training unevenly in later tiers? Are the speed scaling weapons worth pumping as much as 5000 points into a "worthless" stat? (5000 speed could be 1666 more in each other stat!)
Speed is a luxury stat, It technically does something, the best argument i've seen for it has been to outspeed bosses, to make boss fights easier
I would say ignore it. Mike has a capped pet with 0 speed.
I think for speed training a simplified ratio to train would be: 8HP:4Def:2STR:1SPD Until around tier 8-9 then start to even out STR closer to even to def.
There was a bunch of math that went into it when I was BQ training only from tier 4 to tier 9, but that was the approximation of a lot of math that I did daily to decide what stat to train next.

Speed determines your ability to crit hit opponents and your opponent’s ability to crit hit you. Crit hits are when you or your opponent do double the normal damage. If your speed is higher than your opponent’s, then you never have to worry about them doing double damage. If your speed is very low, you may find them doing crit hits a lot. There also appears to be a relationship between defense > opponent strength and the ability to be crit hit.
Personally, I don’t think speed is the most important stat, but it can make battles easier. For opponents with high health like meatslab, mutant scientist, prakerash and baenwurath, it makes battles go faster if you can crit hit them and stop them from boosting past your defenses. If you’re gonna let speed go, then let it go completely and make sure your defense and health are high. If not, then make sure you keep it in a range were you can have an effective boost.
