I apologise if this is in the wrong place. Im trying to make a picture smaller without losing any of the actual picture, shrinking it if you will, Ive got photoshop elements 12, I can do very basic things, what I need is when I make a picture smaller for the background of a pet profile I want the contents of the picture 'scaling' down I think lol, Im really very newbie at this, and not sure how to explain it even! but I'll give it a good try if its explained to me.
If you look at

Eccles I have used image- resize-with constrain proportions ticked, and changed the pixel size, to reduce the physical size of the pic, but the contents stayed the same size so the cake looks massive, I tried image-scale and dragged the corners in but it just cuts off and doesnt make the picture smaller, Im sorry Im rubbish at explaining! Thank you for any help.

It's because you added "background-size: cover" to your background CSS code. Setting the background to cover means it'll stretch the image to fit the container and crop where necessary. So if you remove that line, everything should be OK :)

OOh thank you! I was thinking it was something I needed to do in photoshop. I will check if I can alter the code as its not mine its free from FallenSamurai blog.
I've tried removing that line, there are 4 different ones that end with "background-size: cover" so I tried removing each one it turn and it had no effect, so I tried removing them all and it just looked like the normal subeta pet profile, I dont want to be a nuisance, Ive just found a different smaller scale picture. Im very grateful for your trying for me.
Thank you again.

I took a look at the code and removing "background-size: cover;" probably didn't do anything because I see that FallenSamurai added fallback codes for older browsers. You'll have to search for the html element in the code and remove this line of -webkit-background-size: cover; -moz-background-size: cover; -o-background-size: cover; background-size: cover Hopefully that helps!

I've worked it out, I was using pictures that were too small, 1920 x 1280 is much better, so when I put them in the description, it stretched the picture and makes everything in the picture too big. I tried what you said, and it went smaller but no longer fitted the screen there was a gap at each side, because I dont know the exact size I need to fit the description page,do you know what i mean?
I feel a fool about these things, I do envy people like you who know bout code! thank you very much.

It'll still stretch on screens that are bigger than 1920x1080 though. The size of the description page is variable and depends on the user's browser window's size. So you might want to make an even bigger image, because "background-size: cover" ensures it'll be scaled down anyway.

I just checked google and it says my browser size is 1376 x 682 so that will give me a clue how big to get the pictures I want? so from what you say, as long as its more than 1376 I will be fine? I do have a 22" widescreen monitor. Im enjoying these daily lessons thank you very much, I hope its not being a trouble to you though!

It'll be fine for you but might not be for bigger screens (my primary screen is 1920x1080). It depends on whether you want the profile to look good on other screens too. I know that some of the other users here have 4k screens, but I haven't looked up those sizes yet.

You're very welcome, I just feel like I'm not explaining things very well, for which I apologise xD

you have been great! I didnt really think properly about the actual monitor screen size of my own & other users, and had no clue how big a picture I would need to fit correctly for my screen, that just shows how much I knew about stuff lol.
so now I've learnt for the future what size pictures I will need for screensavers as well. thanks a lot. I finally understand about what other users can see being important too.
