Is there anyone else here that subscribes to a monthly book crate, like Owlcrate, Fairyloot, or LitJoy for example? How do you like them?
I'm subscribed to Owlcrate and I absolutely love it! The themed items that are in the crate are always so spot on, I don't think I've ever been disappointed in a crate so far. I prefer when they have fantasy/sci-fi themes but contemporary is nice too :)
I am not, but I have been so tempted! Maybe I will subscribe to one for 2018, that could be fun. What made you choose Owlcrate?
I had been tempted to try Owlcrate for a long time, I just waited for the ’perfect’ theme to come along, and it was August’s ”Something wicked this way comes” that dragged me in. The themes have continued to be awesome since then ^^
Also I’d heard so much good stuff about Owlcrate, I think it’s the most popular/successful book box out there, and the people behind it seem really sweet :)
Ooo that sounds like a fun theme! I am torn personally because I don't really like stuff and am kind of a minimalist. So while I love the themes and a lot of the stuff that I have seen in unboxings I never subscribe because if I am going to buy things I would rather... choose them on my own.
I have looked at... was it Book of the Month?... in the past. I really like the idea of getting a newly released book every month, and it would be cool to read along with people. Hopefully someday something will come around for me!
The thing that gets me about Book of the Month is that it's not always brand new books. They're hardbacks, yes, but some of them come out in UK before they become available on that site. I read the Power way before it was available on BotM, which put me off, you know? And then some months don't always have the best selection?
I work in a book shop so I have too many books lol. And yet, I still want a subscription lol
Yea I remember that being a drawback as well. There just doesn't seem to be a perfect solution out there for me yet! I am a reviewer through Netgalley, so I do get ARCs from publishers often (for free) on the Kindle so it is keeping my reading refreshed - and it is kind of fun to read things in advance! :P
I want to review books! lol It's also fun to read things in the UK before most of my friends in the US can haha
You should, it was fairly easy for me to get into! Netgalley is free to sign up and use, and the way that it works is that you request titles that you would like to read. If approved they show up in your "dashboard" to download to your Kindle to read for free in exchange for an honest review. I review the titles on Goodreads and copy them over to Netgalley. Easy, peasy. :D
Feel free to follow me on Goodreads if you want! I can't imagine that more views of my reviews or likes/comments wouldn't be useful. :P
Ooh thanks! I added you on Goodreads. I also signed up to Netgalley, but not sure if I'll use it yet. We'll see. I like to read the physical copy and my shelves are full (so my list is crazy long) haha.
Wow - thanks - I'd wondered now NetGalley works! I keep hearing about it. I'm signing up too.
Also adding you on Goodreads.
Do y'all know if there's a good science fiction/fantasy themed book box that sends out new ones? I review and nominate/vote for the Hugo awards every year, so I'd want only new stuff!

Hahahaha yea I prefer physical books too, but I like the accessibility of e-books (especially for travel!). And... I am kind of a snob... I only buy certain kinds of books for my shelves, but with e-books I experiment more and have found a bunch of great things I wouldn't have read otherwise! It's a balance for me... I have a stack of books to read but here I am reading on my Kindle app lol!
Happy I could help! I have had nothing but good things with Netgalley so far!
Regarding the sci-fi boxes, I know I had seen one that I almost signed up for like a year ago but I don't remember what it was. I think it was mostly YA, which was why I put it off. But I just did a google search and this page came up and it appears there are lots of options! The Nocturnal Reader one on that list seems interesting! :P I don't know if they are new releases or not, though
I'm a snob too! I find it really hard to want to read something that has a rubbishy cover haha!
Hi! Add me on Goodreads too :p https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/36291585-issy-jackson-stone
Added you !
well - I'm going to have to get serious about my blogging reviews of what I'm reading, again. I put in a request for ARC's from several of my favorite authors on Netgalley and they were all rejected because I don't meet their criteria for a reviewer. Which is fair! I haven't posted much at all this last year.

Fairyloot is a nice fantasy/scifi box and you could check out Cratejoy’s book section https://www.cratejoy.com/category/book-subscription-boxes/ for other examples :)
I accepted you!
