This year the news post for "opening" our trees appeared to be really small, stuck in between larger posts. I don't know if some infrequent users were able to see that tiny 2 line notice. It really looked like a "free item" announcement, instead of a "LOOK UNDER YOUR TREE" post.
Would it be possible to get a larger graphic and or a reminder post to open the trees before they disappear this year? I just have that nagging suspicion that there are a handful of users who are still waiting to see a news post, so that they can access their gifts.
I'm not sure how difficult this would be to do or anything, but would it be possible to add something to the tree codes/options widget on profiles so that (for your own tree at least) it has a message that presents can now be collected with a link to the page?
If people see something like that, it might help.
I'm actually surprised there isn't an OPEN YOUR TREES! notation on the sidebar on the news page.
I actually looked for something like that when I went to open my tree because I did actually have a bit of a challenge finding the open trees post, go figure.
I know we have a lot of holiday things there right now but it seems like that would be a nicely obvious place, as well, given how fast news posts fall down the page.
I could see it being an event/notification, maybe in addition to the news post.
We didn't do an event notification because it really lags the site. I did mean to update the Decorate your tree with Presents! on the news sidebar, but we had a few things accidentally break at midnight that I forgot about it. DOIN THAT NOW THOUGH
