Automatically lock threads that are 15+ months old to prevent necro-ing them. Just a thought for something to save the Moderators some time. ^^

Something like:

$nowday=date("d"); $nowmonth=date("m"); $nowyear=date("Y"); $date=date("Y-m-d H:i:s"); $date=date_create($date); date_sub($date,date_interval_create_from_date_string("450 days")); $cutoff = date_format($date,"Y-m-d");

Then update any thread to locked where date is older than $cutoff.

Some threads, like those in Useful Threads posts, are eternal.

At forums so strict about necroing and also which uses date format that was numerous times pointed out as straight out confusing for so many users, I'm surprised this automatic lock isn't a thing yet.

I agree, this would be really useful. I admit I don't know the specific month necro rule because I can't remember what is what for what forum (if it is different), so I hesitate posting in threads I'd like to! This would be a useful feature.

Full support for auto-locking. Necroing is a pain in the ass, especially for forums that are mostly dead/dying.

If a topic hasn't been posted on in 12+ months, it's fair to assume that it's dead. And (imo) just because a thread is in the Useful Threads topic doesn't mean it should be exempt from the rules.

Also, clearer date formatting and a rule on necroing that isn't as all over the place would be really nice. |: Justsayin'.

Auto-locking would be a nice feature, but more important, I would like to see consistent necro rules throughout the forums.

this would be nice, but necroing isn't really something people get in trouble for unless they abuse it, so I don't think it's totally necessary

I support this because I have no idea what the all of the times for the necro rule are.I just don't post on any that hasn't been posted on for a few months because I don't want to accidentally necro a thread.

If we don't really get in trouble, then I guess it just depends how busy the mods get. It would convenient for us but it must be nice for the mods too.

Just because most people don't get in serious trouble, doesn't mean this shouldn't be implemented. My thoughts are that this is an easy fix to a problem that has plagued the site from the beginning. It's a small problem, yes, but an issue nonetheless. For Pete's sake, just auto lock threads.

I feel that what would be more beneficial is either allowing users to lock their own threads (with the exception of the selling ones because I can see people abusing this), or an auto-lock when a user is frozen. Necroing isn't really an issue.

I’ve never really found it annoying to lock a necroed thread, just saying. Necro-ing as the other mini-mods stated isn’t a punishable offense unless a person is knowingly spamming dead threads in which case it’d probably be considered spam.

I could see the auto lock when the op is frozen being useful since with those type of post, the user isn’t going to come back. I could see users abusing being able to lock their own threads in some forums though.

It might not be annoying for minimods/UAs, or be a punishable offense, but it's still frustrating for users and it's overall pointless to leave dead threads unlocked if they could be locked automatically after, say... a year and a half since the last post.

I mean, why leave old threads unlocked when there's a specific rule against bumping them up? The necroed thread gets locked as soon as it's necroed anyway. 9 times out of 10, the people doing the necroing are either newbies trying to find their way around, people posting to get into the Blue Building.

You're trying to encourage forum activity, but have to lock old threads that get bumped up and tell the user (again, usually a newbie) not to necro old topics.

Most of the time, it's not even worth recreating the necroed topic in any forum except Suggestions because the forums are a bit on the dead side as is.

idk, it could just be me, but I just see absolutely no reason not to have an auto-lock. ._. Either that, or tweak the necroing rules.

I agree.About a month ago, somoene revived one of my threads from 2011.And it was a thread I no longer needed answers to.But the person posting was asking if I had found some items. When I saw the notification that I was pinged in it, I went and changed the title to "lock" IT was such an old thread and only one person had posted on it and that was back in 2011, so to revive it in 2017 was kind of crazy.
