This shop had a nice purpose, I liked the fact that we could craft some weapons but since then nothing happened with this shop and the items that it's offering.. most of the items are not even part of any combo and are totally useless.. The only reason to still check this shop is for the .

I would be very happy to see some new things to do with this shop, crafting new weapons, new iron items etc. Or just to close it and move the items to a different shop and the Key Stone Mold to the Steamworks Menagerie for a good number of trinkets..

I agree. It would be awesome if we could actually craft weapons. _

i would love to see something happen with the smithy... there's so much potential! metalworking instruments, heavy aprons, rough-hewn gemstones and ores--!

instead he sells a limited range of items that you can make the unadorned swords with, to make these or you can buy the components for a few other odds and ends (the rreign and forj sets, mostly), and that's it. :c

the funny thing is that you can just buy the swords and save money because the materials are expensive in the shop lol

I totally forgot about the Rrign and forj sets!

actually most of the swords i listed are probably cheaper to make (ex, nobles rapier - ~30k to make vs 200k to buy, and even descimatti is around 30k to make vs 50k to buy)* but there's really no reason to make them unless you're not done with the combo achievement or filled wardrobe achievement s:

  • i didn't do much more than skim, but i think the only smithy combos that are actually Expensive (either to make or to buy) are the flame of red rreign set, , and , since those all just use expensive things like or or

yes exactly and they are not even good for battling..

I think among the forj combos the machete is the only one that can be good for battling..

And the rreign wears you can just borrow from someone

So in general the battling purpose of the shop is only for 1 weapon..

yeah, i won't argue with that. the smithy is just not very useful, and that's a bummer :c

Maybe they could do something like Fantine's Bakery. That gives a lot of items another use. I can imagine a lot of cool items that could be on the list and there could be levels of skill and such.

This comes up in suggestions more than you'd think.

tbh, I would love more stuff for the smithy. D: It makes me super sad how empty and forgotten it is. But... please, for the love of merciful baby Christ, do not make it like the bakery. One grindy, irritating activity is enough.

Users have been suggesting a lot of cool things like more gems, geodes and the likes. Wearable-only ancient weapon and armor replicas would also be a fantastic addition, regardless if they're restockable or craftable like the Smithy swords. Little nuggets of Subeta's regional history! Tie that in with a little Subeta-themed Renaissance fair! Crafted, swirly wrought metal borders/frames for HAs. There's potential to branch off into crafting your own jewelry. Books about the respective crafts and differences between various smiths, books on weapon and armor maintenance, books on how to make accurate historical replicas...

tl;dr - the smithy is an untapped goldmine. Pls mine it.

I would love to see more things added and more things you can make with the stuff already in there. It feels weird to have a smithy and hardly anything to really do with the items from the shop... Yes we have things you can make already but more would be neat~

Seconding everything said pretty much. There's so much that could be done with the Smithy, and quite a few great threads in S&I with ideas for what could go in there.

I personally would love to see more lovely crafted weapon-wears, but a different crafting system than the Bakery: maybe some kind of minigame where you have to select different steps and ingredients in a certain order? (eg, 'smelt add copper ore hammer hammer etc, and you get a certain number of mistakes before it turns into a junk item? there should be some sort of hint as to what step is next so it's not totally guess-and-check, and if crafting levels are a thing than maybe increasing levels could increase the number of mistakes you can make?

they/them/theirs, please.

We haven't forgotten about the sable smithy, it's just not a top priority right now (right now we have holidays we need to prepare ahead of time for like dumb luminaire). and I have some ideas for it (some that users have also suggested which is awesome), we just haven't had the team power for it with everything else we're working on. :)

Ooh, I like the sound of that and I don't mind waiting a bit longer now that you've explained what's up. :D Thank you, Amber!

Hopefully Subeta will be able to expand the team a tiny bit in the future. has been a godsend, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

Yeah, when I talk team I mean the Creative Department. Bug has been a great help to Keith and I, but that's for programming and not art. Moving some holidays around (like Alegarten to the summer and moving Vesnali a bit forward) has really helped with some of the pressure to where artists don't have to go like STRAIGHT TO NEXT HOLIDAY NO BREAK NO FUN SIDE PROJECTS haha.

I've mentioned it before, but I'd like to do like gem hunting in the winter (something similar to bug catching etc) and using those gems to make things (weapons which is down for, clothes, etc). It's just a bigger project than just "oh let's get a few baked goods done for fantine's baking" because we already have a base for that. Pushing something completely new out, you've got to have a good amount of art right at the start etc.

Oh, I know you guys have different teams working on different things! But even with one extra person on the programming team, things began improving drastically, at least from my perspective as a user. I imagine things would work the same way with an expanded art team - it would take some pressure off of everyone and possibly allow you to sneak in a few more things along with the standard grind.

Yep, I figured as much. I imagine it's also the reason why the teahouse has been kind of set on the backburner, especially when the new servers ended up with bad hiccups for Morostide, and the new layout brewing, plus the bootstrap update. ... Darn it, now I'm hyped for gem hunting. ;P

I didn't want to push weapons too much as a suggestion for the Smithy because I know it's always kind of been an odd thing with stat balancing and the likes. That's why it felt that replicas were more fitting - they covered the other two bases (TCs and wearables) and don't need numbercrunching and stat balancing. Superglad to hear that is down for more Smithy weapons!

Teahouse isn't on the back burner, it's actively being worked on. :) It's just a lot more than just a new shop with some items. We want to make it like actually worth going to every day etc. It wasn't even really the new servers that were the issue for Morostide, because the changes Keith made actually worked (where they'd scale up as they should), it was more the resources were like being used so fast because of the vault/wardrobe. That's why caching was added etc.

( and I have discussed a lot of various like new weapons and stuff. I'd like to get more higher tier items so there's more of a choice; like when you look at what a lot of battlers suggest for the higher tiers the options really get limited compared to lower tiers.)

(okay at this point my cold medicine i think has finally kicked in so I'm going to go sleep to netflix shows; will look at any pings later <3)

Aw yiss, I'm glad to hear about the teahouse! I thought for sure that was set aside for so many other things going on. :'| Used to reading about things being pushed back, so this is reassuring to see.

And you give hints and thoughts of new weapons just as I'm training up another battle pet. πŸ‘ 2017 has been slowly restoring faith in the site, and I am loving it. Looking forward to seeing what you guys have planned for 2018.

Rest up and get well soon! Thank you for explaining everything and answering things!

Just commenting to say that gem hunting and everything to do with it sounds awesome! More gems and making pretty and useful things (not like at the bakery) will be fun. ^^ I want you guys to take your time with everything and have rests and breaks, though. You work so hard. :o β™₯
