I just felt like sharing some of the headshot sketches I've done my my Subeta avatars over time. Subeta winds up getting rather naturally tied into my artwork every now and again. Even if there's a lot I don't like about this place I cannot by any stretch of the imagination say that I don't like the items.
Although I sort of don't want to put this one first, I do want to put these in chronological order so that the shift in style is more natural. So first up is a really heavy-hitter for me, not in terms of composition but in terms of meaning. It's a piece I drew for the sixth anniversary of the day I had brain surgery, lost all of my memories, and as a result developed PTSD. It's one of two that include gore: 6th Anniversary Warning: Gore
The next ones are safe, just fairly random, so I don't have a story to tell for them: Evening Space Grin
And the last one is another one that includes gore, though it seems most people don't think it bad because it's still so unfinished. I absolutely love this one and do want to finish it, but it's been hard for me to work on it without having a panic attack so it's remained incomplete for almost a year: "Rename It Later" Warning: Gore (The name is a reference that no one would get.)

Wow that's an incredible backstory behind your first piece, and I think the overall quality of the image is the best of the four that I can load("Rename It Later" is doing some weird error, you have a - in front of the https and also the image url isn't accessible even after I removed that, maybe reupload and try again? The others all worked fine). Space is the second-best overall and the winner when it comes to shading, your improvement really shines here.
Oh, whoops! I hadn't caught that. Thank you for pointing it out! I tried it out myself and yeah, for some reason trying to fix the URL after it was loaded just didn't work. It works correctly for me now that I've taken the dash out of the original link, though. If it still doesn't work for you, I can try re-uploading it as you've suggested.
Either way, thank you!

Ah you're welcome, now its loading just fine. I'd agree that the gore isn't really an issue on Rename It Later, I do like the look of the eyes rolling up and the blood dripping down from the sockets, and you've got a good shape of anatomy with the placement of each aspect of the face. I think they're wearing a large scarf? I can't quite say what is happening at the top of the head aside from the blood, it almost looks as though maybe a rock fell off and hit them?
It's loosely based on this (major stress-fueled) avatar: Private Outfit
The avatar is a bit of a mess in and of itself. And while it isn't rendered, or proportioned correctly (I will be looking into improving that when I am able to work on it again), the top portion of the head that you're seeing is straight brain. No skin, no skull, no rock, it's brain, with wire squeezing it. The feathered headdress is masking the break in the skull a good deal.
That does certainly help me understand why no one was seeing the gore as being a problem in this piece, if no one realized that unrendered blob was supposed to be a brain. That is, unfortunately, one of the big reasons that piece is hard for me to finish.

Ah, yeah, even after you explain that it really doesn't come across as brain. I'd briefly considered it might be part of the vertebrae that had been shoved up with such excessive force it had pierced the top of the skull. I can kind of sort of see what you mean now that I know the darker shapes to the sides are the headdress used in the HA, but I don't see the wires, if anything it looks more like the bandages are crisscrossed around the hair?
I think the HA itself is fairly successful with the face, it does just get a little muddled around the top of the head.
Have you had the time to work on any other sketches?
I do see how you get that. It's not helped by the fact that I'd misjudged the size of the forehead and upper skull when I was drawing it initially, so it looks like you're seeing a full head there when you're not supposed to be. That's among the things I will be trying to fix, I'd opted to keep it that way at the time because I didn't want the fullness of the hair to be too unrealistic or strange by having too much of the top of the head gone. I'll just have to mess around with it and see what I can do. As for the bandages bit, I can assure you there are no bandages there by design. I guess you're probably looking at the forehead? That's mostly basic groundwork for bangs and hair. Above that in the dark red area is where the wires are. The four lines protruding out from the sides of that are are also the wires.
I had no idea it was that hard to tell what's going on in that piece! That explains some things, but that really bothers me. I may be working on it again sooner than anticipated, but I'll still wait until I'm not having an anxiety headache to do it. Nevertheless, I'm glad you like how at least the face has come out so far! I'm pretty happy with it myself.
I've definitely had time, but I haven't done any more Subeta-specific ones. I don't mind sharing some of the other human sketches though, I'll just try not to swamp you. There are a lot I can choose from. ^^; I don't have the date order of these readily available, but I think most if not all of them are more recent than the Subeta avatar sketches.
Berserk-inspired art and a first-ever try at real armour: Tracey Dude
Directly from a breathtaking but somewhat horrifying dream I had, also a favorite I want to finish: Galaxy
A couple of art pieces I did when I was experimenting with color: Green Blue
The final piece in the color experiment, but this one I traced a photo because I wanted to see what real human anatomy looked like when it was represented with lines, so I could break some of my own habits: Pastel
And last but not least, some vent art I wound up really liking the colors of: Strong
