Maybe it should be a hydrus ring/necklace/coin, something we can buy (with cash) since it seems to take forever waiting for her? If someone missed it, it's even worse. So when someone (like me :D ) is quite impatient, use a summoner and voila! :D

can hydrus be gotten through the miracle potion thingy? if so, that's an alternative. I guess this option could be cheaper
As much as I would love, love, love a Merana summoning item (because I kicked myself hard the last time I missed her), I really would not use it if it was a cash option. And afaik, don't we already have an option to turn our pets hydrus with cash, in the form of the Miracle Potion?
I'd really like to see it in some form like the Tempest Lightning Rod that we can get from the bathhouse, though. Or perhaps stumbled over in some variety of random event, given that Merana is currently exploring the new world and all.

This would be great. I'd just love some kind of alternative because waiting weeks for Merana only to miss the window is actually infuriating.

I don't think it's necessary. I believe Merana has some problems showing up. The visit used to occur on average around every week, and a ten days wait was uncommon. The last time she didn't even stay for the full 12 hours as she did every time before.
Problems...as in a bug? Or a (dare I say it?!) plot?!

I would like to say yes, but I rather have staff confirm this instead. It doesn't have to do the plot last year since she returned and started giving out quests this way.

As far as days showing up, there's nothing off! If you visit the news post when she was rereleased in the current format, we never said she'd be every week. Every single day she has a chance of showing up, so she could technically show up twice a week. Or it could take her more than a week!
I will look into the hours, because it seems based on the ping group thread that she isn't doing the full 12 hours sometimes. I'll keep an eye on it! She's supposed to show up within the first 12 hours of the day and stay for 12, so people of different timezones get a chance.
