Welcome
Hey everyone. Welcome to my duct tape creation topic. My name is Anomaly and I like to make duct tape creations. I started maybe 3-4 years ago when I saw someone who had a duct tape woven wallet in high school and thought it was so interesting that you could make something from duct tape that I tried to make my first wallet. Did wallets for 2 years and then as I progressed, I got into making duct tape paintings. I went a little overboard and tried my hardest to make really good creations for people. I spend between 2-6 hours, depending on what the picture is and the overall details.

Currently, I am working on making a Glaucus atlanticus duct tape painting, but here are a few wallets I made a few months ago and some duct tape paintings.

Eevee Duct Tape Painting This one took about 15+ hours to do. A lot of detail and all in duct tape.
Scooby and the Gang About 3 1/2 to 4 hours to do.
Bat Wallet 3+ hours, Top is the front of the wallet, inside has 4 card holders and a billfold.
Fox Wallet
Pokemon Go! Choose your team [url=https://flic.kr/p/Z1bZ95] Each took maybe 2-3 hours to do.
NEW:
Lion King Painting Took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to make.

I don't see a lot of people posting things like this, so thought I might share some. :) Hope you guys enjoy what you see and let me know if you have an obscure creative outlet too. I also do water marbling. :)

Questions? Don't hesitate to ask! :) Just wanted to share another outlet to do creative things.

Thank you ! :) I'm glad you like it. Yeah. I don't see a lot of duct tape paintings myself, like maybe once in a while. I'm glad. I'm hoping to sell these and some others that I'm planning to make.

Thats pretty neat. I've seen a lot of cool things on pinterest for duct tape crafts. Purses and flowers and such. I remember years and years ago when duct tape prom dresses were a thing.

I havent done any myself but I've been into button art recently. I want to try and make one of George Washington.

Thank you ! There are quite a few people who do a lot of purses, flowers and wallets that are pretty much experts on it. xD I couldn't do it. I think they are still doing it for the Duck Brand duct tape that they award like $10000 for the number one prom dress.

That's really cool! I've never actually see button art before. Oooh. That's really really cool. :) I do wish you luck. I'm trying to motivate myself to make a Balto and Jenna duct tape painting. But got others that may be a bit easier to do. But I'm sure we'll both get to it. :)

Now that you mention it I do think a lot of that stuff is sponsored. I can't imagine the amount of time, patience, and money that must go into the prom dresses but it's probably worth it for $10000.

Craft is easier said than done. I have a pretty bad habit of wanting to do something and never doing it. I have a drawer full of paint swatches that I never managed to make anything worth while out of. If I remember right I was trying to make a mosaic.

Yeah. It's takes a lot to do stuff with duct tape because it can go wrong really easily, even when you are paying attention. So it is a lot of time and patience with it. Yeah. I guess it is.

True. I understand that. Yeah. It's one of those motivation and time to do it. Huh. Interesting. Is there a reason you couldn't do it? I've been wanting to do the Balto and Jenna painting for maybe 2 years. And I have all this tape just kinda sitting there, not getting used. It's been about 4 months since my last duct tape craft.

We did this exercise in my painting class in high school where we cut a bunch of shapes out of magazines, put them together, and then tried to recreate it as a painting. It might have been an exercise for matching colors/mixing paint to get colors, I don't really remember what the teacher said but that what I remember trying to accomplish.

Anyway I had cut out a bunch of shapes and arranged them to be a fish and then recreated my fish and I matched my colors pretty damn well too. So I think my plan was to get these paint swatches, cut them into shapes, and try to arranged them into something. Anyway I remember thinking about that fish when I first saw this. It just ended in frustration though.

Every now and then I'd go back and look at things people made with paint swatches but never came up with anything else. Some people decorate entire walls with those things though.

[edit] I also did this with felt. I made a Sagittarius beanbag toy for a contest and wanted to make more but never did. Now I have a lot of embroidery thread a felt in a tote in my closet.

That's actually really cool. I never had that in art class before. Granted, I don't do well with colors or anything. But that's really cool idea. Yeah, it is always about trying to go back to why you wanted to do something in the first place.

Huh. That makes sense. So making an image with multiple shapes that were of something else to create a bigger image? (Like making horse shapes and creating waves as the overall picture) I hope I have that right. A really cool idea either way. I can't do something like that and love to see other people's crafts.

Hmm... Interesting. I can understand that. I struggle when I actually have motivation to do it. That's pretty neat when it comes to decorating entire walls.

That's really cool that you made a Sagittarius beanbag toy. I'm sorry that it didn't make it past that, but maybe you'll feel a muse to create more later on. :)

It wasn't quite as specific as that. My shapes were mostly blocks/triangles/polygons. Though a wave made out of horses would be an interesting picture. It kind of works off the same idea that the button art does. Individual pieces together to create a whole.

But yes, motivation is fleeting. Hopefully you can get back to your Balto painting too.

Ah. That makes sense. I actually couldn't think of a better analogy for it, and that was the first one that popped in my head. xD But that makes sense. It would be. Maybe a bit of inspiration later down the line. :) But that's really cool that that is how button art works. Thank you. :)

Yeah. Always fleeting, depending on what has been going on. Thank you. I'm sure. But first, Glaucus atlanticus. :) And I hope you'll get back the inspiration with both paint swatches and button art. :)

Ooh these are awesome! The fox wallet is so cute! And honestly I love the pokemon go team paintings, they're simple but look really nice. How do you make the paintings, do you stick the tape on cardboard or something? How large are them? And what do you use to cut the tape?

I used to be into duct tape art too! This post reminded me of it. I still have a bunch of duct tape lying around too. Here are some old things I made:

little shoulder bag

Chikorita bag

flowers, butterflies, and hearts

Some more recent flowers made by me and my boo

Man, high school... When I was in high school, there was one year I made a messenger bag out of duct tape and used it for the entire year instead of a backpack. It was nice when it rained because it was so waterproof xD

Thank you so much ! I'm glad you like the fox wallet and the Pokemon Go duct tape paintings. The simplicity of them made them much easier to make. :) The ones in the pictures are on cardboard. I am planning to make a few and put them on actual canvas, but cardboard is a bit cheaper and still holds the image well. I have one of my paintings up on my wall from cardboard and looks nice. Um... Good question. xD Each of the Pokemon Go pictures are 7 1/2 in by 7 1/2 in except the Mystic as it is 7 1/2 in by 8 1/4 in. The Eevee evolutions is 10 1/2 in by 9 1/2 in. The Mystery Gang is 11 in by 8 1/2. I use an exacto knife. Helps with the precise cuts.

That's really cool! I love the Chikorita bag and the flowers, butterflies and hearts! :) Those are really cool. Awesome work Bug. :D How big were your messenger bags? I know some people were keeping them small because of the weight limit they thought they had. It's cool to find a fellow duct tape artist. :)

That's pretty cool though. I carried too much in high school to do that. College came around, and I'm still carrying about the same amount. xD

Haha it was decently sized, like a standard messenger bag size. However, I never carried much around with me in high school. I had three folders: one for homework to hand in that day, one for homework papers that still needed to be done, and one for all other random things. Then I had a pencil case with pencils and stuff. That... was pretty much it. So I never actually needed to place very heavy things in there.

But man... high school feels like forever ago. I can barely remember what I used to put in my bag. I just know it wasn't heavy. But I'm sure that can't have been all...?

Anyway it actually did break once, I remember, towards the end of the year. The strap broke off the side of the bag. But luckily, the classroom I was in when it happened actually had some plain silver duct tape so I managed to fix it right there :P

That makes sense. I would think that the duct tape wouldn't be suitable for like textbooks or heavy notebooks. I wish my school was like that where I didn't need much, but never could get it right. Huh. Wish I had that now in college, but of course, more work.

Yeah. High school does feel like forever ago. 5 years I think. And that's nice though. At least it made it easier on the bag than it would be if you had heavy notebooks or something in it.

At least it was towards the end of the year, so it survived for the full year. :) And that's good! At least it matched what the actual bag was. :P I feel like that would have been physics or forensics for me to find duct tape to fix it. But that's really cool that it lasted so long. :)
