I don't know a lot about battling, I do the battle quests everyday and try to boosts the stat of one battle pet but I usually use brute strenght and healers every once in a while to win a battle (I get the basic of battling, but the more specific part of battling I still don't really get :/ ). Usually this method gets me to win most battles, but I have a lot of trouble with Angrybeard (first as a Quest 10 challengers, now as an event challenger). With my usual weapons and a pet with stats Level: 703 Health: 1306 / 1306 Strength: 1384 Defense: 1311 Speed: 1301 I lose most of my battles. It's also the only challenger I'm having a lot of troule with.
Doe anyone have any tips, or know what I'm doing wrong, and how I might be able to beat Angrybeard in general (maybe some type of weapon that's more harmful to him than others?)?
general battling tip: when fighting a challenger that you're having difficulty with, it's helpful if you look at what icon types they do. angrybeard does mostly physical, fire, and some wind icons so you would want to use weapons that block those icons. i'm not sure what other weapons you have but you can check out subetalodge and search their weapons list by tier and defensive icon types and such if you want.
bringing in a 100% freezer and clutch healers would help too. depending on your strategy, a bomb or two might work as well.
for a tier 8 pet, i just tested these somewhat cheaper attackers on angrybeard and they worked pretty well blocking his phys and fire icons.
for scrolls, a healing and/or ones that blocks phys/fire/wind should work.
hope this helps. :)
EDIT: the looks like a good one too since it blocks phys and fire and can be bought from the battle shop. if equipped with the (also in battle shop) the duster's stats will increase a little.
Just some basic advice: Get a to replace the healing bones, and add a to your set. It will blast one of your opponent's weapon into something useless, and will make your fights easier. Also get the , which is a 100% freezer. If that's too expensive, get a or a
I did some very quick battles against him and these are his weapons:
Cannonball 7 wind, 10-15 physical, 8 fire Blocks: 8 light, 7 physical, 7 fire, 5 dark
Ladle of Innocence 8-12 physical, 8-10 fire, and sometimes 7 wind Blocks: 4 each: ice, magma, physical, dark
He has multiple copies of each weapon, but blasting might be helpful if you can't block all of his attacks. Although it does seem that he only has the two weapons, so you can be pretty confident about what you should be blocking.
He does mostly physical and fire, so if you can block those two you should be able to beat him, especially with those stats.
Some possible weapons you can use to handle him might be:
offers a nice heal, and defends against his physical, dark, and wind icons, but you'll need to patch up the lack of fire defense.
is a viable option to defend against some of his fire icons, as well as offering a nice heal (thought this can't be equipped with the gutting knife as they're both considered healers.)
will also take care of all his fire icons.
A cheap option to defend some/all of his icons (depending on how lucky you get) is the , which leaves a slot open for you to damage him as well. This is a nice option because Angrybeard has low health relative to the rest of his stats.
I would also recommend freezing him, and is a great option for a cheap freezer.
I'd also recommend using a cheap scroll for some extra damage and a touch of healing: is a great option for that, if you have the AP for it.
The trick with Angrybeard would be to defend against his icons, since he hits pretty hard but is fairly predictable in terms of his offense.
Good luck!
Are you using any scrolls? Kanosh looks like he has about 60 AP. If you have the money, it might be worth it to get an (15 AP) or (20 AP). These will give you some additional damage, defense, and a 7% heal per turn, and they're infinite use.
Overall, it looks like your pet has outgrown your weapons. Here's an older thread with weapon suggestions for Tier 8 if you were interested to in shopping for new toys.
- glad to see you battling and trying to learn something new. You absolutely can beat Angrybeard with your pet with a change of weapons.
This guide might be helpful to you - MrCool Guide for Angrybeard. That blog by has guides for lots of the Subeta challengers and is very helpful in choosing battle equipment and strategies.
Your battle pet is Tier 8 and almost Tier 9 and you are mostly fighting with Tier 3 and 4 weapons which will be much less powerful, so it is worth considering new weapons as noted in the responses above. It is worth noting that the higher tier weapons can be expensive and there are often new and better ones at each tier, so if you are only battling sometimes, then you might want to consider investing in Tier 9 weapons, although there are some things that you will continue to use even at higher tiers and some weapons that scale so they get better as your pet grows.
If you only battle once in awhile and really don't want to invest a lot of sP in weapons though, you can still beat Angrybeard at least five times to get his loot drop. I was able to do it recently 81 who is only T3. Her stats are: Level: 117 Health: 292 / 292 Strength: 292 Defense: 287 Speed: 287 Intelligence: 447 AP: 27
The key is to understand battle icons. There are 9 different icons - physical, earth, wind, fire, dark, light, water, ice and magma. If your opponent does magma damage, you can block that (or some of it) with magma defense. But magma defense doesn't block water - for that you need water defense. Each icon is paired. So when you choose weapons to use against Angrybeard you want to damage him with icons he doesn't block and defend with icons that match what he uses to attack.
Just as an example (there really are much better choices at your tier) 81 used these: and for a freezer she used (which is not a guaranteed freeze) unlike the options suggested in the responses above She did have an Aftershocks Scroll and a Phoenix Quill. (both of which I highly recommend and still use with my T5, T8 and T9 pets as well), but your pet has much higher health to begin with than she does.
You are definitely ready for a better healer. Ruffie Bones heals 100 hp once per battle and your pet starts at 1306 health. At your tier there are several infinite use weapons that will heal your pet for a percent of their maximum health every time you use them. And most of them also attack which Ruffie Bones does not. Some of them don't even take the healer slot, so you can actually use two healing weapons (plus a healing scroll) in a single turn.
Aftershocks is a great infinite use healing scroll that also has some block and some attack. But it is expensive. If you would like to have just an infinite use healing scroll, heals for 8 percent and can be bought for about 3.3 million sP from a user shop (or made at the Secluded Shrine for less than 1 million sP - you can find the necessary ingredients listed here - SubetaLodge Soothing Current Scroll but you should be able to beat Angrybeard without either of these. The recommended in a previous response, is infinite use, heals for 4 percent and also has a small attack. And you can buy one for less than 5,000 sP. A bargain for a sometime battler.
If you would like a little extra inexpensive boost, an is a fantastic and much underrated weapon It is a Tier 4 once per battle weapon that heals your pet 25 percent, has a medium chance to freeze, has an attack, and also has a low chance to steal one of your opponent's weapons. And it is currently selling for less tha 73,000 sP! Also it takes the Stealer Slot so it can be added to your regular healer.
I hope some of that helps. Good Luck with Angrybeard - you can do it!
Thanks a lot! I never took notice of the icons, and looked alone at how much damage the challenger did in total, so that's really helpful. I got a few of the weapons (the ones I could afford atm XD). And thank for the effort of testing :) I also want to say that I really like your drawing in your post (I just started watching Yuri On Ice, and I adore/am slightly obsessed with that anime atm).
Thanks for the advice! I'll start saving for the Phoenix Quill. I added both the Gorgun and the Recycle Blaster to my set.
Wow, thanks for the effort of looking into this all :) It actually finally made me understand battling a lot better. I got a few of the weapons (now I need to start practicing to learn how to use them :D).
Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunaltely I don't have the sP right now, but it's something worth to save up for. Also thanks for the link, I once choose my weapons when my pet was a lower tier, and went with the once that worked then (but because I never thought I had problems with them. I never realised my pet was already so much higher in his tiers).
Thanks A Lot. Thanks so much for putting so much effort in explaining. Your explanation really helped me a lot, with Angrybear, and battling in general.
Everyone, thanks so, so much for your help. I finally got to beat Angrybeard 10 times (yay!), but most of al, I finally understand battling A LOT better. I usually keep on training my battlepet, but never really keep up with how it works and what wha weapons do. I'm a semi-battler, I like to battle, but still need to find the time to sit for it, and work out how it all works (and thus I battle like a maniac and only try to do damage without understanding what I'm actually doing). Again, thank so much for helping me out! :)
- congratulations on beating Angrybeard! I hope you enjoyed it.
And it sounds like you are much better equipped now for future battles as well.
For what it's worth, I've found the battlers to be very helpful and supportive. And you can usually find some great discussions and tips about any new or temporary challengers in the Battle Chat thread, as well as someone to answer pretty much any battle question you might have.
Hope you enjoy your time in the Battle Coliseum.
you're welcome and congrats on getting the 10 wins! i chose the cheaper alternatives since you might not stay in that tier for too long so you can save your money for the higher tier weapons.
and ahh yuri on ice!! i hope once you finish it you will fall in love with it like i did. i've been obsessed with it since it came out and next week marks its 1 year anniversary! :')
