I've been on another site recently that has this feature and I've discovered I love it. I'm pretty uncertain about trying to talk to people on forums generally. I always have this weird thing where I feel like I'm going out of my way to intrude somewhere I'm not welcome when I'm not already a regular, but it seems that sort of feature fixes that problem.

I'm talking about a bar toward the top of the page which shows you new threads that have been posted in the forum types you have favorited. So for instance, here on Subeta if there were something like that, I'd be able to favorite the "Help", "General Discussion", "Art Market", and forums for Groups I'm in, and any new threads posted in those particular forums will show up in the scrolling bar.

I don't know how much of an extra drag that would add to the site, but if it wouldn't be too much I'd love to see this added here, even if as an optional feature that people can turn off.

I'm not sure about a scrolling feed, but I absolutely support this suggestion. Perhaps the newest handful are displayed, and you can navigate to a separate page where more are displayed? And/or perhaps in addition to displaying new threads, you could also see new posts in your favorited groups (this could be a toggle.) As long as we could chose our favorited groups, I'm good. Just worried about site strain if this was primarily displayed on the main forum page, even for those who didn't want it.

I've always loved seeing recent posts on the main page (hell, it's how I found this), so turning that into a customizable page would be great.

We used to have something similar waaaay back on the old forums, but it got removed due to strain and server load. I want to say it was called the forum feed, but my memory's foggy.

If there was a way to bring it back without having it be super load-heavy on the servers, I'd be all for it! Maybe have it update once every 4-6 hours instead of constantly displaying new topics/posts, or something?

Yeah, we used to have the forum pulse ages and ages ago. I'd love to have it back. I feel like the forums were infinitely more active before it was removed.

And I'm constantly wishing there were a way to quickly find active threads when I'm bored and feeling chatty.

Looking to buy this!

I was thinking that might have been a thing ages ago and wasn't sure, glad I'm not the only one who seems to remember that. They've been slowly getting better about reducing server strain, so you never know.

Yeah, the forum pulse is one of those so useful features that I really miss. Would love to see it back in some form.

I'm wondering if it might be easier on the servers if its something you select. It doesn't display it whenever you go on the forum main page (like it used to), but only if you actively choose to go look. It could also be kept on a 30 minute cache or something like that so you couldn't constantly refresh it.

Oh okay, so that's where the "on the forums page" bit came from. The site I'm currently familiar with having this feature has it displayed on every page. It only shows ten of the most recent threads and only updates if you refresh the page, but the site has I believe a much smaller active user-base too. Subeta would probably need to have its own thing, so I don't mind alternatives. ^^ I think I could get used to the dedicated page option.
