I just found an art program that I love, FireAlpaca, and I would like to finally get a tablet to draw with. Any recommendations for a cheaper tablet good for drawing on a Mac?

Or possibly an app that would do the same with an iPad mini?

[edit] It's hopefully going to be a birthday or Christmas present, so maybe no more than $200?

whats the maximum you want to spent? I am a fan of wacom tablets, new ones are expensive, for sure, but older generations are nearly as good as the new ones. Bought myself a Intuos Pro Medium version for 200€ I also tried out the Huion H610PRO, it is quite good, too and ofc cheaper than wacom ones (~70€) so it really depends on what you call "cheap"

I have been using an Intuous Pro 4 Medium for 7 years now, and it is still in wonderful condition. I've heard good things about Huion tablets, but Wacom is still the leader in the industry (for now).

If you ever stumble upon good financing, I'd go in for one of Wacom's tablet PCs, but unless you hate yourself don't get a Surface for art. The expresskeys (or lack thereof) really make a huge difference.

I use a (Wacom) Bamboo Fun for a very long time and it's very easy to use. Sadly I don't think you can buy it anymore but I'm thinking to get a Intuos Draw when my current one stops working. That one looks great to me too (and seems to have the same handling as the one I have now).

I use an intuos 5 9x7. I'm not familiar with other tablets, but I've never really had a problem with any of wacom's lines though and I've been using various incarnations of Wacom tablets since I was 17.

As for apps on iPad I use procreate for my iPad Pro( I have the 9x7) and an Apple Pencil for the stylus. It's the closest I've found in terms of features to procreate, but it is paid app though. Also, the apple stylus only works for the pro, but there's a lot of styluses made by independent companies for the apple ipads though.

As a side note, in response to Thespian's question. I've only used Wacom for pretty much all apple computers I've had. I'm on a 2015 MacBook Pro right now and never had issues with the tablets not working. That said, I've never used the bamboo line. I went from graphire( which was eventually replaced by the Bamboo line) to eventually using intuos instead, but the bamboo line should be ok for Mac as far as I know since generally, Wacom markets to both mac and windows.

Monoprice is supposed to be really good and a lot cheaper than Wacom tablets of comparable sizes. I've never personally used them, though, and I don't know if they work with Mac, unfortunately.

Otherwise, maybe try and find stores near you that sell tablets and let you try them out, especially if you're not really sure what you're looking for yet.

You could also get a stylus for your iPad. Again, I don't know about Apple products, but maybe try out some free software or free demos and see if there's anything you like.

tablet-wise, i've had a wacom bamboo craft for 7 years and it still works beautifully~ sometimes it glitches a bit but it's always an easy enough fix i have windows though and dunno how well it would work on mac, since it's an old tablet D:

for your ipad have you tried medibang paint? i have it on my phone and it's fun! and you should be able to get a stylus at mostly any electronics store :>

I agree with - I've heard amazing things about monoprice, and it DOES look like there are drivers for a Mac :D
