I can describe this easily, I think, but I can't think of a neat, short way to put it in the title. Locking layers? idk Oh well.
What I am proposing is maybe a little silly, but I think it could be useful, if it's possible to implement. Anyway, I think it could be handy if you could make something "sticky" in your current avatar, while you're building it. For example, if you know what hair you're using, click a button to make it sticky, instead of having to move everything underneath it.
But Squid, just put the hair on last.
Well, yes, I could, but if I'm still playing around with other items, I'd like to see how it looks.

I'm not sure what you are asking for here. Do you want some particular item to always show on the top of the list like a brooch or hairpin, or always on the bottom of the list like a backdrop or mostly hidden underwear, or more functionality so it's something like "always layer four down" in relation to other items?
I'm not sure how plausible this is but it'd be really nice if it were possible, even just to lock certain things at the top of the list or something.
Like ... I really just want to try to get some more interest in this old suggestion of mine, because I still think it's a great idea - IF it's possible to code. I know some things just aren't.
But, for example, the avatars I, personally, make most these days involve the AMAZING squid head. Cursed dubloons, what's up!!! But on top of that, I have nine other face items. Now, most face items don't tend to get in the way of most clothing items, so it doesn't matter if you make your face first or last.
But those dang tentacles need to be on top of the clothes and underneath all of my makeup and glasses. And it would be SO HELPFUL, if I could lock those first ten layers to the top, so everything else I click as I'm building the actual outfit would just automatically go underneath.

I'd really appreciate this, sometimes I'm basing an HA around like, a Held Item for instance, and it's such a pain to have to keep dragging it to the top while I fiddle with everything else
This seems like a neat idea. c: I'd use it for things like held items, foregrounds and hair.
I suggested something like this before where you'd have a sort of dummy layer you could move around, and any item you add to your HA would go directly below that (or above, if you hit a toggle). It would allow you to put stuff directly below your squid head like you're talking about, or move it to the bottom and quickly try on backgrounds below all 30 clothing items you're using. I think that would be the cleanest way to implement this.

no idea if this is possible, but if it is, i know i would find this super useful.
