I haven't been reading in a while, and I could really use some suggestions on something to check out. I loved the Harry potter series, the song of ice and fire series, percy jackson, hunger games, etc. Fantasy, darker themes, post apocalyptic stories, fiction, things of this nature would be perfect. I'm an adult so suggestive themes aren't an issue, just looking for a book I can't put down, before I just re-read harry potter for the billionth time, and I hate taking a shot in the dark with books.

If you like fantasy, then I would suggest Tamora Pierce's series: The Circle of Magic quartet The Circle Opens quartet The Circle Reforged

It follows for mages as they discover their powers, grow up and take on students of their own. It does have darker themes as they go through wars and murders etc

I have some you might be interested in. As you can tell, I read a lot. :)

The Red Rising series by Pierce Brown (teenage dystopian) The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (fantasy, female protagonist) The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers (witty fantasy) The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaardner (fantasy and self-discovery) The Princess Bride (dark fantasy, and my personal favorite book) The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri Tepper (feminist futuristic) The Amulet of Samarkand series by Jonathan Stroud (magical war in England) The Naming series by Alison Croggon (fantasy, female protaganist) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (dark fantasy) In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente (a bit like 1001 nights where stories continue and weave together. Might be hard to get into, but very, very good and well worth it)

If none of those sound appealing, let me know, and I can go through my Goodreads list some more. I tend to read a lot of fantasy. :) Hope that helps!

Post apocalyptic: 'Z For Zachariah' and 'Children of the Dust'

If you're into historic fiction/adventure, I highly recommend Wilbur Smith and Bernard Cornwell.

i can always readily recommend Jam by Yahtzee Croshaw. it's an apocalypse-setting comedy in which the main character awakes one day to find their entire city of Melbourne, Australia covered in a 3-foot-deep layer of man-eating strawberry jam. it's phenomenally inventive and funny, absolute delight to read. Croshaw channels Douglas Adams in his manner of writing (if you haven't read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it should be your top priority!). and since you enjoy fantasy, i can recommend another one of Croshaw's books, Mogworld, which is about a necromancer's undead minion who longs for death, but is unable to die. when strange occurrences begin to sweep the land, he flees the destruction of the necromancer's tower to discover what the bizarre beings were that erased it. it gets very meta later on, and both of his books i've recommended examine, and also poke fun at, patterns of human nature in a dry and witty way.

You'd probably like the Insanity series by Cameron Jace. The first book is free on Kindle.

I always loved Trudi Canavan's Black Magician series. It had the perfect mix of magic, battle, conflict, romance, and awesome settings

I can bite anyone who needs the skins: Butterfly Bruise, Dolly Dreadful, Fungus, Lovebug, Sticky, and The Baker. Comment or ping me.

I definitely agree with these two recommendations by -

The Princess Bride (dark fantasy, and my personal favorite book) The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri Tepper (feminist futuristic)

You may also like:

Lois McMaster Bujold's stories in the World of the Five Gods: The first book is The Curse of Chalion - fantasy with non-standard protagonists, and it's wonderful

Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series - all the book titles are "Magic [Verbs]" lol - it's urban fantasy and it's VERY VERY GOOD! A lot of complexity.

If you haven't checked out the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, you might like them too. Urban fantasy, also with a lot of complexity.

Charlie Jane Anders came out with a sort of fantasy sci-fi mashup last year - All the Birds in the Sky, which was pretty wonderful. The audiobook was particularly nice for this one.
