https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/876109/Avatar-builder This post got me thinking--

Is anyone out there working on a SubetaHQ/Arvee-style Avatar Maker? The on-site one is okay, but it lacks the ease of changing your skin and hairstyle and everything else that Arvee had, and for making characters it's effectively not worth the trouble.

I know it would be a lot of work, but I really feel like the sofetch-gen's shutdown left a huge void that nothing else has really quite managed to fill. It's not anything that Subeta's doing wrong -- just that the on-site HA generator is geared to making avatars of the player, and the sofetch-gen and SHQ's gen before it were geared to just making avatars, period.

I wish Subeta had a demo wardrobe or something with every single option unlocked so that people could make whatever came to mind without being hemmed in by the limitations of what your account has personally unlocked. I can see the argument that part of the reason to play is to unlock skins and hairstyles and whatnot to further customize your avatar, but that's the root of the issue: for people who don't want to make a personal avatar, but instead a representation of their OCs -- or just to work out a creative idea before they set out to go grab everything they'll need -- the current wardrobe generator is too limiting: and there is nothing else to fill that void.

I know it's mostly a niche use, but I know that it's not just me who's been left in the lurch for years now because of this. I still have Arvee pinned, hoping one day it would come back... even though I know it can't. Old habits die hard.

Honestly I know it's hopeless, but I still come here now and then to test the waters -- hoping and hoping that one day there will be something to fill that void. It was such a big part in the creative lives of the people I know, it helped to kind of storyboard a rough draft of what someone might look like -- and in the case of people who can't draw like me, it was the only way to jury-rig a visual representation of a thing. I know a lot of people loved to make representations of various fictional characters in the arvee-gen for fun, or to theme an entire outfit around a specific skin... it was just a part of my life and the lives of the people I knew that's been left empty, now.

So I do apologize for this spiel! It just gets me down sometimes -- I'll have the urge to make something, but not the tools! If you read all of this, thank you -- and I hope you have a nice day! And that one day, there will be something out there to fill the void the arvee-gen left behind.
