We have scattered Disney tribute items around the site, but I haven't seen anything specifically relating to the Main Mouse himself. Some stuffed animals of a sailor duck or a mouse wearing red shorts or a "goofy"-looking dog would be fun, or a parody Mickey Mouse ear hat or balloon. :o

Considering how sue-happy Disney is concerning Mickey Mouse, I don't see that happening

I can't really see Disney being so much trouble to a place like Subeta. And tribute items are hardly a new thing on this site and all, and then there's Fair Use and parody material and those fun things.

Speaking as someone who has lived near their headquarters and has talked to many of their employees, since they have a big employment footprint here, I have heard some awful stories. Mess with The Mouse, no matter how small you are, you get sued. You don't know what you are talking about .

Gosh o.o I was just making a suggestion since we already have a bunch of tribute items on the site, I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I know they can be sue-happy at times, I've read enough of the stories; I just didn't think that since we've already had a good number of items, that just a couple more would be that outrageous an idea.

If I knew I'd get so much backlash for this idea, I would've just kept it to myself. x_x

It's not backlash, dude. It's people knowing that Disney is sue-happy as all fuck over anything relating to Mickey Mouse. They've even gone after people that just painted Mickey on their buildings with cease and desist orders.

You weren't wrong to at least suggest it, and the responses could have been a little less harsh.

But it's true that Disney takes Mickey in particular much more seriously than some of their other characters. Tributes to Disney in general can be fine, but Mickey is their golden child flagship character that they want completely 100% to themselves.

I think it's probably better to err on the side of caution and leave him and other related characters (Minnie, Goofy, etc.) alone just to be safe.

I just wanna say for the record, there are already a ton of Disney CWs... and more specfically there's even Mickey/Minnie ones? Like these two:

So I don't think it's really fair to say "it'll never happen/it can never happen", since these things are already onsite/were approved by staff? And as far as I'm aware, subeta has ownership over all CWs submitted so yeah this is already a thing? I mean tbh, if Disney suddenly came down on the site, I don't imagine they'd care if it was a staff item or a CW haha.

That said, I don't think we get a lot of general "tribute item" releases that aren't tied to like an event/plot (like Epicon or the used-to-be-reading-drive) or a costume trunk. But I think we all know (or should know haha) how much our lovely lovess Disney... I bet she could tell us if this idea is a no go or if they'd consider making such items if a suggestion seemed dooable!

To be honest, I didn't even consider CWs because I never use them, but that's a good point. Those items are mostly just using the silhouette/shape though, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Like I'm not sure if doing something like the rag dolls but with Mickey would be a good idea or not, although like you said it doesn't hurt to ask.

Yeah I mean if it was ragdoll or two (because you can't have Mickey without Minnie) then I imagine they'd have to take more liberty with the four required changes (different base color, different type of clothes, different colors of clothes, look more like a round eared wyllop instead, idk), but if doable that'd be super cute.

I think the ears would be way easier (and it's already a thing so it's hard to say it can't be done haha). Either a set could be released in several colors with some changes, or little accessories could be added (a little hat, different type of bow, a little princess hat, a little crown, etc) or something like that.

I haven't had a chance to really trawl the forums for Disney-related items or CWs yet, but I'm sure there are more Disney items on-site like the ones mentioned. I can see where the concern is coming from, but it's not a terrible suggestion, I think!

I love this idea; it was the first thing I thought of when this month's theme was announced! (nostalgia/childhood) I am a huge Disney nerd and would love more tributes to it onsite :)

You should never ever regret suggesting something, imo! Sometimes ideas (like Mickey) have a really bad wrap for copyright backlash, so people assume it's best to be cautious! And sometimes people just state their points more abrasively than they should.

I can see these working as a loose homage/tribute and more subeta themed. Such as seeing them as toon-like minions named something like 'Dopey Ruffie', 'Grouchy Mallarchy', 'Wily Wyllop'. I can see them a bit like these minions but a but more stylised and cartoony plus some themed items along with them too.

I think it'll fit nicely into this month's theme if it's not too late or could even be a cartoon show that many subetans have watched.
