EDIT: i scrolled down and found this suggested already ;P good on ya
In the Preferences, under profile users have the ability to select their gender to display to others but the options are limited to male, female, or none.
This could fairly easily be replaced with a custom text box so users could input their own gender rather than have it hardcoded and require updates as more people of various gender identities utilize the site.
Ideally there could also be a box for inputting pronouns in a "he/him/his" format that could pop-up in the information that pops up when you hover over somebody's username, while we're thinking big, but that can be done currently regardless if one is willing to sacrifice their status, so I could understand that not being of very much concern.
We should have a couple more options, including non-binary, other and genderfluid, but I don't think a custom gender option would be my preferred option. Expanding the choices we have would be preferrable.
Same for pronouns, I think this is more appropriate to have on your profile, or forum signature.
I support this, I am all for custom gender. So everybody wanting to express their gender and let people know has the ability to do so. And whoever wants to use the option not to express their gender, but typing in things like "robot", "kumos" or "pirate" can do so in my opinion without offending anyone. Personal choice of how much to reveal. Or how to present yourself.
Also wouldn't mind an optional pronoun question, but that one shouldn't come up on profiles by default in my opinion. Like I really, really don't care what pronouns other users use for me here. I wouldn't like to have to fill out that field.
