The card's description is "Your attacks now do +2 damage. Lasts two turns. Blah blah combo card." But when I play that card, and then an attack card like, say, swipe or whatever that does 3 damage to guardian and padlock...it does 3 total damage to each. Not 5....which it should be.

I just played a game, and it does +2 damage, but for two turns and not the current turn. If the maze has any buffs that reduces your attack against the padlock or guardian, it will also lower your damage towards it.
There are also a handful of bugs from the cards in Mazes and Mahars, although none of them breaks it to the point of being unplayable. I wrote a bunch of things about the cards on my pet Mazes profile, although it's about two years ago. However, I don't think anyone had changed anything aside from the game being unable to start at one point.
Oh, I am aware that I need to pay attention to reductions - when I became suspicious it wasn't doing it on the turn, I got a chance to test it when literally all the maze had done was play a guardian. I mean...even if I don't play much, I'm pretty familiar with how card games work (My husband's real into Magic so I try to at least understand the game even if I'm not into it).
I thought I saw some other little bugs but...well, either way, the game should run smoothly and according to what the cards say - which does not specify a starting period, ie should work immediately. Even if it doesn't break the game, it can cause you to lose by a margin in some cases and thus, my ire.

The blue cards doesn't show up until the next turn, although the green and yellow ones does (but your turn would end if you played them).
Also, when the Maze plays the Noxious Vials Maze Card, it doesn't show up. However, it heals the Maze by 2hp each turn, so for example an attack would look like it got reduced by 2hp. Not sure if that's your case, but still good to know.
Edit: Thinking about it further, the only other blue card is the Bountiful Banquet Mahar Card. It might make sense for it to take effect starting next turn if using a healing card, because if you use a healing card, your turn would end before you can use the Bountiful Banquet Mahar Card.
However, the Box of Sugary Sweetness Mahar Card theoretically can be used right away. I think they kept the blue cards consistent with how they work, but it is confusing and could mess up your moves, and your strategy as a consequence.
- I mean if they want to have it be that it starts next turn, that's fine...it's just, it needs to say so on the card.
