TL;DR: Photobucket is kil. My pets are ded.
Need an alternative for personal images? Use imgur @ http://imgur.com
PHOTOBUCKET WHY?!?!
Ok I know why. Hashtag cash grab. But why LIKE THIS? ;____;
Every single photobucket that has ever been used off-site is now replaced by this ransom note:

Thousands, nay, MILLIONS of images across the internet are suddenly broken... there's a lot of content that doesn't get regularly updated, but gets seen a lot (like forum signatures, fan pages, help sites, personal homepages/profiles, blogs, pet sites). Think of all the beautiful work that people have done on pet profiles on Subeta that now lies in limbo. Some of them dead forever. This includes commisioned work that some users will never be able to retrieve from the artists.
I'm an admin on a social network that allows people to customise their own homepage and create personal wiki-pages. We always encouraged people to upload their images on-site, but a lot never did. That's thousands of pages and profiles right now that have these disgusting placeholder images. It will be the nail in the coffin on that place. It now looks ugly as hell everywhere you turn.
They're ushering in a new age of the internet. For many years, photobucket was the main image hosting site in the world. After a 14-year history, they've decided their service is worth $400/month.
Well, no thank you, I'll go to imgur. (I know, I know, entitled scumbag over here). It's just a pain to switch over. I'm going through my photobucket library right now and finding all the work I have to do to fix this. But I am just one person, and this is affecting millions.
What are your thoughts? Did you know about this? Did you switch to a different image host long ago?
To some this might be old news, if so, sorry! I only just found out about it, when I clicked on my profile here. But I think they're doing a gradual rollout, so it will affect more and more people every day.

I have stopped using photobucket years ago because I always disliked the whole layout and found imgur a lot more pleasing to my eyes. I might still have a handful of old image links from photobucket on ancient pet profiles but I cannot be bothered to check it these days. :(
I've just tried to log in to grab my photos, the account is so old that I don't remember my password, and it's taken me so far about 15 minutes to try and reset it, but my antivirus hates the website, and I think photobucket hates it own website. Adverts galore, spam about upgrading the account, and nothing actually loading... jeez how bad has this website got?

I haven't used Photobucket in years, but even back then I remember it was already starting to go downhill. Making changes that nobody wanted and becoming increasingly difficult to use if you just wanted a place to store your photos, and I feel like organization was starting to get difficult. It seems like things have just snowballed from there ever since, and now they're apparently unusable if you don't pay.
It seems like whoever was in charge just thought to themselves one day "What can I do to make my website become an utter mess?" and then did all of those things.

Well damn son. That's a poor decision, people are just gonna go elsewhere.
I stopped using it a long time ago, any time you tried to post an image it was broke as fuck. Then I moved to tinypic, and then THOSE images wouldn't post on subeta, they were all broke as fuck. So now I'm on imgur. Let's see how long this one lasts lol
I was changing some of my images over to imgur and, GAH! After fighting with photobucket, I hope it dies. I still need to go through and see what other images I want to save/move over but I don't think I can stand it.
Me trying to get onto phobucket, first time Firefox: Photobucket: Oh, you have an adblocker! NO PHOTOBUCKET FOR YOU UNTIL YOU REMOVE IT! Me: Well, alright. disables adblocker and other addons PB: YOU STILL HAVE ADBLOCKER! Me: No I don't! opens up Chrome PB: I STILL SEE ADBLOCKER! Me: curses like a sailor while I disable all addons PB: I STILL SEE ADBLOCKER! Me: opens up Opera PB: ADBLOCKER! Me: Damn it! opens up IE PB: That's better. Here you go. freezes like the arctic in winter because it can't load the ads Two hours later I at least get my pet profile images over onto imgur.
Then I found out all I had to do was view page info in Firefox and grab the pb links to upload onto imgur. headdesk

Huh. I'd wondered what that image was. Seems like a bit of a daft move on their part when there's not exactly a shortage of other free image-hosting websites for people to turn to.
I used to use Photobucket for everything, but then it started lagging a lot, having dozens of adverts, and I think either making unwanted resizes to my images or having a small maximum image size - I don't really remember but I know it was something to do with my uploaded images that was the final straw for me. I use imgur these days which I've never had any problems with. I expect more people will be switching than coughing up that kind of cash!
I also stopped using Photobucket years ago when they started having links redirect to their site instead of just seeing it directly. The place used to be a really handy site to store photos but now it's just a shitshow...
I just went on there now and the site is so goddamn broken I couldn't even find/see any of my old images...
I'll add Photobucket to my list of "websites-I-used-when-I-was-15-but-are-now-dead-to-me". Welcome to the club bud.
I would be careful about using Imgur as an alternative, because this is what their ToS states:
I noticed a lot of broken pet profiles and overlays recently with this same, ugly image, and it's such a shame. Truthfully, there isn't a good image hosting site anywhere. All of them kind of suck but that's just my personal opinion. I've only really used Photoshop, Tinypic, and Imgur though.
It has been ages since I've used Photobucket. I'm not even sure what I've got over there, but I'm also afraid to look because that website drives me nuts.
Lmao $400/mo is RENT in some areas do they really think people will pay that for image hosting
What on earth is happening
