Hello! I'm Bug, a full stack web developer (and programmer for subeta!) I've enjoyed making the occasional commission here and there, but opening a shop never managed to appeal to me. So I had an idea - instead of offering profile commissions, how about I offer coding lessons for anyone who wants to learn how to make pet/user profiles themselves?

How It Would Work

I have both Skype and Discord, and am happy to teach through voice chat, video chat, or plain instant messaging. It's totally work through IM only, and might even be better in that you'll have the logs to remind you of everything we discussed. I have a Pro account on Codepen.io as well, which allows us to code collaboratively in real-time, and see changes instantly. You do not have to have a codepen account for us to use it. :)

Typically when I tutor, we start with an unpaid session to make sure it's something that can work (sometimes my teaching style just doesn't work for someone, and that's okay! everyone learns a bit differently.) If all goes well and you want to continue, we can have sessions whenever you want after that, to learn anything you want.

If you have little or no experience, we will start with the basics, but afterwards we can spend each session devoted to a topic of interest, walking through a profile together, and so on. I have used curricula before, but for this sort of thing I think it is better to personalize to whatever you want or need to do :)

Payment and Price

I would like to charge a fixed price per session. Per session means per lesson, NOT hourly. So it's still a single-session price even if the session lasts for 3 hours, for instance. If we meet twice a week, then each week you'd pay for two sessions, regardless of how long each session is.

I think a fair price would be 1500 CSC or $10 USD per session. I'm also happy to take CWs you don't want (or CWs off my wishlist) as partial payment.

(Note: This is WAY CHEAPER than the $15/hour I normally charge for private tutoring - which is already somewhat cheap - so unfortunately I cannot lower the rate further. If there ends up being no interest because of the price, then that's that I suppose.)

Proof of Credibility

Of course, I can't claim expertise without any evidence, so I found some stuff you can look at to prove I know what I'm doing when it comes to HTML and CSS.

Here's some topics where I explained a bit my thought process when developing code: Making a Responsive Profile? Why is my pet profile so long? resolved!

Here's some examples of profiles I've coded: Recursion | Cathlene | Looker | Memorial | Yellowstone

And here's two very basic tutorials I wrote up one day about web coding: Basic HTML and Basic CSS

I post a lot helping out in the profiles & graphics forums, and I also post a lot of customCSS here and there where I think it will help people. I have a clear, deep understanding of advanced HTML and CSS, and I have a bit of experience tutoring people as well (paid private tutoring, sometimes in person and sometimes over skype) and people generally like how I teach.

I do work as a web developer as well, but I hope I don't have to show anyone here my resume haha.

If you would like more examples or links, just let me know! I've posted a TON in the forums so this is just a small sample.

Thank you, and please let me know if this is something that you'd be interested in :)

I came across this looking to see if you had any sort of shop because I love what little I've seen of your coding (and I say little because I've just come back to the site recently, not because you don't have plenty to show!) so I'm definitely interested in this. My only hesitation is that 1 I know very little coding (I know how to tinker with some bits of premade coding but coding from scratch? not so much...) and 2 I don't have anything too exact in mind aside from how anchors work. (Or rather how to make them work, because I can never seem to.) So I'm not sure if that's too directionless. (I know you mention knowing little to nothing is fine, but I figured I'd be upfront about it all the same!)

Anyway, I know this thread is a tad old so I'm not sure if it's still a valid offer but I thought I'd post just in case and see if I even sound like someone you'd want to try and teach. Either way thank you, I'm going to read through those tutorials you posted!

Totally still a valid offer ^^

I don't think the things you mentioned will be a problem. I love introducing people to it so I don't mind teaching a total beginner at all. In fact, since you're a beginner, it's also okay not to have much of a direction because we'll just start with the basics. As you build the foundations, a better sense of direction can arise naturally just because you know a lot more about what there is to explore.

If you'd like to sMail or comment me a discord/skype, we could chat in more detail about everything :)

Thanks for the interest, I really thought this topic was gonna get pushed into oblivion without any responses hahaha. And thank you so much for the kind words about my coding! It's true, I don't have many examples cuz I don't do commissions, but I'm really glad you like the ones you've seen.

Awesome, sounds great! I'm actually going to bed soon (it's nearly midnight here, whoops) but I'll send you my discord name and we can talk more tomorrow if that works for you.
