Instead of the horribly specific topic this originally was, how about this just end up being a thread more for discussing fictional characters and storylines (any media, whether it be books, games, movies, etc.) in general? Feel free to just chime in with whatever stories/characters that you enjoy and that makes you happy!
original obsolete post
Oh wow, it's so exciting this group exists, yeah? So how about we all get to know each other! So I personally have a huge passion for storylines and character-related development, and delving into analyzing the depth there and picking apart the symbolism, which brings me to one of things I'm most interested in asking y'all -
1. Who are your top ten favorite fictional characters, and why?
2. What are your top ten favorite storylines, and why? (Any form of media - whether it be games, books, movies, etc.!)
They don't have to be in order, and you don't have to list ten if you can't think of that many. (If you'd like to list even more, go ahead too! I find all this whatnot fascinating!)
[box=#444342]
[gasp] Am I the only one having a super hard time finding favourite characters? ;u; I mean I know my baes but it's very hard to class and pick them sobs.
(trying to revive your board. accept my love bullets)
ARE YOUR LOVE BULLETS FRIENDLINESS PELLETS BECAUSE I WOULD GLADLY TAKE ALL OF THEM, HEE HEE HEE! B)
Oh no, honestly I kind of realized these questions are probably a lot harder to answer than I anticipated, aha. Maybe I should've asked something a little easier like favorite colors and hobbies or something since this one is so dang specific, ah whoops. ;w;
[box=#444342]
No they are small knives nyehehehe! :k It's okay!! Most of my favourites characters are from movies, books but mostly animes ... Because I'm a garbage like that 8)! AND UNDERTALE! winks winks nudge nudge
I love AUs and everything fabulous +++ fantastic. Settings like magical realm, paranomal, magical powers, creatures of the night and such are fascinating. But then again, I read war books and enjoy war movies, real stories ... I'm not one for romantic settings where a female individual is depicted as weak to please the male normal and the patriarchy. I don't want him portrayed as a hero because he isn't one lmao. In fact, I've become aversive to what I call "normative media".
WHERE ARE THE KNIVES. ... HERE WE ARE!
Oooh, maybe you should just list something out generalized instead? Like instead of bothering with ranking them or something, just list out some of the characters and stories you really like? Maybe that'd make it an easier question to answer.
(WINKS AND NUDGES YOU BACK HEEHEE Oh my gOSH so I was gonna reply to your profile comment but I have like 874262q376 people to respond to so I'm like overwhelmed right now just slightly but I did want to say did you hear Undertale is coming out on the PS4 and PS Vita and is going to have a Collector's Edition too with some hecka neat stuff in it?! I need it.)
Heehee - does that include the numerous Undertale AUs? Because holy dang the fandom just tOOK OFF WITH THE AU-MAKING WHEN IT COMES TO UNDERTALE LMAO. Like wow I can't keep up with all the fancy names everyone made for all of them. It's pretty intense and I am slow.
That's neat you have a mixture of fantasy and realism in your interest range! I'd love to see specific examples, heehee. ❤️❤️
Oh ja honestly I know what you mean, it seems like a lot of romance plots are really cliche like that and also like... not indicative of the diversity of individuals at all? I'm really tired of seeing super forced romances in stories, where the two hang out like once or twice and SUDDENLY THEY ARE MAGICALLY IN LOVE FOR NO REASON like, good grief. I'm also aromantic in nature though, so romance in general tends to turn me off except in fairly specific scenarios where it's less about the attraction and more about the actual dedication and care towards the other person. (Like ah... there's only one pairing I actively take an interest in "shipping" personally.)
It'd be nice if the media would get more on board with being progressive and inclusive/representative. It's exasperating how common the forced cis-hetero romance subplot is.

If I recall to my manga/anime history, o1. I really liked Zankyou no Terror. It's basically 2 young men trying to feel alive once again by commiting terrorist attack in their city. Their goal isn't to kill: it's to make people remember who they were. There is also a meta where "Von" (hope) is basically them dying to find freedom once again. This thing broke me a lot. It was damn good.
o2. There is also our standard Clannad trope where it REMINDS HOW LIFE IS FRAGILE AND PEOPLE PRECIOUS TO YOU SHOULD BE KEPT CLOSE q___q It's a beautiful coming of age and also grieving anime. Damnit.
o3.As for Tokyo Ghoul (enter my favourite character, Ken Kaneki) it's basically starting with a normal trope and setting. Young college student wants to get laid. He falls in love and ... end up as a dinner for said date? Ken sets course to try to live as both a ghoul and a human. Which side is he for? The hunted? The people hunted? But what happens when the role are reversed? It has that strong implied feeling of never being able to achieve anything and to be stuck in a tragedy forever. You keep moving forward and losing yourself in the process.
o4. Don't get me started on Madoka Magica. Grief, mourning, friendship, not heteronormative love, friendship ... Masterpiece. Still crying about it. I'm not gonna go there because I cry everyone. Just know that there are 2 canons lesbian ships and I cry about it. Because that ending. /flops and sobs
... I could go on. Just to name a few but I also loved the entire Susan EE book trilogy of Penryn's and the end of the world. Strong female lead +++ apocalyptic world is my jam. I also really love Harry Potter, The Maze Runner series and some old novels like The book thief and some old french writers because why not haha.
It's alright. I forget to answer my own comments so ... I can relate. And I've heard! I do not own any of these devices so I'll pass on them. But as a fan, I'm sad because thou shall not have money OTL. I'm not really touching the Undertale fandom ... I've seen a lot of porn in there and I just cannot stand it. I cannot stand sexualizing characters that aren't meant to be. IT'S ABOUT FRIENDSHIP FFS! But I do write Undertale AUs! I have one where Sans and Pap are bakers and Frisk is their regular until they decide to work there too. It's very slice of life but I feel very warm when I'm writing it! ❤️ (spaghetti cake included)
They kill all my gays OR! THEY! MAKE ASEXUALITY INVISIBLE!11! Like in Ore Monogatari, one character is very not into being in a relationship and everyone is like "man is he gay?", "is he frigid?" and I'm like MAYBE HE'S INTO HIMSELF ohohshutup sighs. Or when LGBTQ+ characters dies for the sake of plot. Or even more terrible: to be the token gay. /slams fist on table
I feel you. I'm asexual and demiromantic. It's difficult to explain and I either pass up as frigid or bisexual. It's rather annoying and obviously, tv would make it even more weird and obscure. Someday maybe. @ Ryxe
... Wall of text omg.
Ohey I don't mind textwalls, heck knows I'm... fAR... too wordy myself! drop kicks self into sun for the pun
I've never heard of Zankyou no Terror but the way you described it sounds hecka intriguing actually, and potentially in my interest range since I greatly enjoy things like Danganronpa (terrorists and murder and post-apocalyptic world-ending sHENANIGANS) and the Zero Escape Trilogy (it seems like some kind of twisted life-or-death game but it ends up having REALLY POSITIVE plottwists and the way you described Zankyou no Terror having a twist like that seems reminiscent of it). Maybe I'll check it out, it definitely seems interesting! Thanks for telling me about it!
I've... never heard of Clannad either but it's probably because I don't watch a lot of anime personally, oops. (I've nothing against anime, I'm just more a gamer, myself.) Ooh, but it's interesting to hear why it interests you / what it's about!
Oh, is your favorite character the main character of Tokyo Ghoul? I actually saw a little bit of that show myself (I don't... remember how far I watched into it but I know I'm behind / not fully up to date because I'm just slow and have a hard time keeping up with things.) I definitely remember the beginning of it though where he ends up a part of both worlds almost, and gets caught up in some ridiculous scenarios along the way.
OKAY NOW PMMM IS SOMETHING I KNOW REALLY WELL BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THE FEW ANIME I ACTUALLY HARDCORE LIKE AND AHHHHHH YEAH OMG MADOKA AND HOMURA ARE GREAT??? AND ALSO SAYAKA AND KYOKO AND THEY PLAYED THAT ONE SONG FOR THE ENDING THEME INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL ONE AND I BASICALLY CRIED FOREVER HOLY CRAP FRICKERS. Gahhhhh PMMM is so good, seriously. I'm totally with you there, it's one heck of a masterpiece, and how did they even manage to fit THAT MUCH PLOT into such a smaLL AMOUNT OF EPISODES AND IT WAS BASICALLY PLOT TWIST AFTER PLOT TWIST AFTER PLOT TWIST AND I-? WOW. It also has such a gorgeous style for the witch lairs... like... I adore all of that symbolism and textured stylization and just everything. It's fantastic.
For the record I fricking adore Kyubey. That's probably not surprising since you already know I love Flowey a lot haha. Oh boy what do you think would happen if those two met each other?
Ah man, of those books you listed the only one I really know about is Harry Potter (I've read all the books myself, but I wouldn't really call myself a fan; I don't dislike them or anything, I'm more just in the realm of neutral on them). Who's your favorite from the HP series? And what House do you belong in? Did you sign up to Pottermore and get an official sorting / Patronus? (I got tested twice by Pottermore - once before they revamped the quiz and then after, and got Slytherin both times which is rad because that's the House I personally like the best and think is the most fitting to my personality. And then my Patronus is a Ginger Cat. Which is rad because I fricking LOVE CATS so HECK YEAH.)
The Collector's Edition for Undertale is also going to be available on PC/Mac too though, so you'd be able to get some of the fancy things with it. Golly though yeah, holy crap the fandom is fricking gross and weird sometimes. I stay away from that side of it too, personally, but I enjoy some of the AUs here and there (like Dreemurr Reborn or Caretaker AU or the general idea of Floweypot, and I'm excited for Undertale Yellow too). The sexual stuff really bothers me a lot (ESPECIALLY if directed at any of the child characters - NO NO NO NO NO!!!), and I personally headcanon Papyrus as being ace, but.
Awww, your little slice-of-life AU sounds really fantastic and wholesome. I'm glad you have fun writing it! It sounds really fun and delightful; do you share it online at all, or is it just something you do for yourself? C:
UGH YEAH I HATE THAT BURY YOUR GAYS TROPE. WHY DON'T I BURY THE WRITERS WHO DECIDE TO UTILIZE IT AHHH. Yeah I'm also sick of not seeing ace representation, either. (Or gatekeepers, for that matter.) It's like dang people try to force characters into relationships... it's one reason I tend not to be interested at all in shipping, especially since it's something that causes so much drama in fandoms it's ridiculous. Like wow everyone, calm down slightly.
(Also, can I ask, what does the term frigid mean in the context you're using it in?)
[box=#444342]
It was getting lenghty! Everything is under the cut c:
oh my god pls get out don't
I'm glad you're having an interest in Zankyou no Terror! It's sad but also very deep and insightful. I was shook to the core by it because while they fuck up the world, they are trying to make people remember who they were for a specific reason that I'll keep to myself for spoiler reason!
I cannot stand with the anime. The first anime is potable but the sequel titled Root A is absolute garbage that must be set on fire. Studio Pierrot really destructed the storyline because it's not even in the manga and! the decision they took for Kaneki is OOC as hell. The anime has lost all respect from my perspective. The manga is split into 2 titles. You have Tokyo Ghoul which contains everything before the Haise ark. The Haise ark takes off when the new storyline starts (which is titled Tokyo Ghoul:re). Unfortunately, the second half with :re is dragging down the storyline and the essence. I feel like the mangaka has lost some of the tragedy that I once loved. It's focusing on different subject and a bunch of new characters are brought out for the sake of plot/love interest. I've seen some storylines being ... twisted for the sake of yet again, romance. This arc is slowly losing my interest. While I love Kaneki, I also loved his mentor; Kishou Arima. I don't have ships in Tokyo Ghoul. I feel like the set up is wrong to have romance. But oh well.
!!!!!!!!!! A!!! FELLOW !!!! You have no idea how deep into the PMMM hole I've fallen. I'm collecting art prints, anime figures, the dvds ... I'm garbage at this point. I cannot be saved. Madoka Magica wrecked me. When I was in highschool, I tried to get into it but quickly shrugged it off. I was still into my shoujo period, which I will just hide under a rug forever. I connected with PMMM once more when my ex-girlfriend brought it up. While she fucked me over, at least she has brought good animes into my life haha ..ha n___n; The symbolism is majestic. The colours are beautiful and everything has a meaning. It's a masterpiece. Bless you, Homura Akemi. You're the waifu. Kyubey 8) 8) 8) My god. If they were to met ... The world would turn so so dark haha. I'm not surprised of your choice tho!
I was refering to the movies because I've never read Harry Potter. I should but I have a lot to read and so little time. I did sign up for Pottermore and I was sorted into Ravenclaw without a surprise and my patronus is an eagle! Which is quite fitting if you ask my opinion ... haha. ! I'm glad because I'm definitely getting the PC version. We know Steam can be ephemereal so I like to own a physical copy of my things. How exciting. And yeah - seeing my fav skeletons boy with some human ding dongs was really wrong to me. Or Frisk having intercourse with Papyrus ... It's just wrong on so many level.
It's for myself but I wouldn't mind sharing it with you? I'm also doing some traditional drawings to go with it c: Flowey is very important in the story!
I respect all ships. All of them. No matter what. I'm a safe shipping space o/! Fandoms can go crazy over their shipped pairs ... It's insane and intimidating. Ship whoever you want and shut up man. Like what even. (Frigid here is basically refered as someone who is cold toward sexual intercourse/flirting/confession targeted at them). It was the term mostly used to describe Suna from Ore Monogatari.

TELLING ME TO LEAVE!! THE AUDACITY!!! NOW THAT'S TAKING IT TOO... FAR! YOU CAN'T STOP ME FROM PUNNING MY TERRIBLE PUNS MWUAHAHA!! Eheheheh! ❤️❤️ hug
Zankyou no Terror definitely sounds intriguing! Sad doesn't bother me (especially given it's hard for storylines to actually move me at this point), and I'm absolutely all for depth and insight! I love delving into stories that really make you think, or put an interesting twist on a theme. ❤️❤️ I actually wrote it down on my list that I keep for things to check out when I have time, and I'll let you know if I end up getting into it~! Might be a while before I have time to check it out though, aha. Busy, busy.
Ohhh, now that I can understand a lot. Perhaps I should check out the manga for Tokyo Ghoul instead; I do remember I saw something from the anime that kind of lessened my intrigue in it, so maybe it was the sequel you were talking about? I don't really exactly remember details about it, I just remember something being a bit off-putting. That's a shame though that even the manga seems to be deviating off the original themes / appeal towards it though. :C That seems to be the problem with a lot of things, doesn't it? The more the writers create for something, the more they kind of slip away from a solid story/etc. they had to begin with. OTL, what a shame!
Aww, I'm sorry to hear you have had bad experiences with your ex-girlfriend, but at least you've been exposed to some things you can really appreciate. Oh man, that's really cool to hear how devoted you are to it - I recently re-watched PMMM and honestly, it's still just... so fantastic! I'm like still amazed they managed to fit that much storyline into it, and it literally DOESN'T feel rushed at all. Like. The pacing is bloody mindblowing. Excuse me, how. Literally hOW.
Have you played / heard of the PMMM game Grief Syndrome? And have you seen the movie, PMMM Rebellion? I've seen Rebellion twice, and I've heard people sort of have mixed feelings about it, so I was wondering what you thought of it. :0
Oh I see! I've seen both the movies and read all of the HP books, and I have to say there's some things that the movies missed out on, but it's probably because of the lack of screentime, although I did think they didn't do as good of a job on the last movie as they could've in comparison to the scene in the book but, that's just me. I'm not a hugely passionate HP fan, so it doesn't exactly bother me or anything. Haha, that's so cool you're a Ravenclaw + Eagle Patronus! BIRDS FOR DAYS. ❤️❤️
Wow... the two examples you gave of some of the not great side of the fandom... actually makes me feel kind of nauseated. Yeah that's all of my nope right there. That's not healthy nor is it okay to fantasize/romanticize that kind of a relationship, honestly.
Oooh, feel free to sMail me or something about your AU if you want to keep it private! I'd love to see it; it sounds super delightful~ ALSO GOLLY FLOWEY'S IN IT? throws friendliness pellets everywhere out of joy Oh man, that's really cool you're also illustrating parts of it? I think that sounds hecka rad!
"I respect all ships. All of them. No matter what."
I respect ships unless they're like, child porn / pedophilia territory like with the whole Papyrus/Frisk thing you brought up. Or actually abusive in nature and therefore unhealthy... but I otherwise don't much care what people enjoy, as long as it's a good thing to be enjoying and not actually bad and problematic. If it brings someone happiness and it's harmless, awesome! But I also don't like how much people fight over which ship is better; like dang, let people just enjoy fictional shenanigans, calm down rabid fans, yikes.
(Ohh, that makes sense what the term means now; I hadn't heard it used it that way before, so thank you for informing me!)
[box=#444342]
gasps Wowie !!! Alright. I shall accept the puns. As a memelord - It is my duty.
Please, do let me know if you end up watching it. The OST is also beautiful and I use it to write my college papers. The sounds is soothing and beautiful. I have no idea if these are your things but they are my jam! (ouo)b Here is it if you are interested.
Indeed :u Especially because TKG is my baby haha. I've been involved in the fandom for a long long time but the second half is no longer appeal to me. I've moved on from that. But it's a beautiful story that I've read in one sitting. Kaneki is one tough cookie!
I'm really devoted to PMMM. I've never played the game but I did see the Rebellion movie ❤️ I know some people are very mixed about it but to me, it was everything. I think some people missed the point of the 3rd part of the movie. It's basically Homura Akemi's movie. The entire epitome of who she is and what she have done to others ... but mostly to herself. Redemption? Saving Madoka? No. Homura is a selfish character. She wants Madoka to herself and never accepted her sacrifice to become Godoka and to save people. I feel like Homura kind of had PTSD because she was the last one standing on the battlefield. Let's not forget that Madoka "died" and became a witch more than once in her arms. I mean ... It's a masterpiece. That's why her witch is melancolic (the big one). Evil Homura is the epitome of selfishness, love and envy. That's why she keeps Madoka to herself. That's why she erases everything. To protect the one she loves. I don't know maybe I'm going too deep haha.
I'm glad my AU is interesting you! I've read and seen some amazing things in the fandom. I've seen less good things too but some people are absolute gems!
We are on the same page then. I see Papyrus and Frisk as siblings, just like Sans and Papyrus. It's like people shipping Flowey and Frisk together ... I cannot get behind that, especially if you sexualize both of them. I've seen things that I wish to forget :c @ Ryxe
I don't have any favorite fictional characters... least not any more sadly. I think the mere fact that I am getting older I tend to just appreciate the characters in other works but they really don't become favourites...
I think I find myself more attached to my own characters I have created. Being as I really want to become an author but probably will never make it.
Ugh I feel dumb now for even opening my mouth... ;; Excuse me while I go hide ...somewhere.
No, oh gosh, please don't go hide somewhere. You're absolutely not dumb for expressing how you feel; please don't think that! Seriously, I welcome your contribution to my thread!
I think it makes sense to be less attached to other fictional characters, and more focused on your own. As a fellow storyline/character developer, I totally understand enjoying your own characters over others. I'm kind of wondering, what types of storylines and characters do you like to create? Would you be comfortable discussing them at all, or are they more personal to you / not something you necessarily want to share?
Either way, I wish you the best of luck in becoming an author! I used to want to publish my own stories too, although I think I've drifted away from that now. One thing though that I can suggest is, if you ever want to publish them, don't get discouraged if one company turns you down. Just keep trying! I've heard of even some famous authors having been turned down multiple times before a company was willing to take their piece to publish.
Oh really? The OST is fantastic too, huh? What songs from the soundtrack do you like the most if you don't mind sharing? (Unless they're super spoilery for some reason. But golly do I love myself some good music, ahhh!) The link you gave me says "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.. It is not available in your country." by the way, which is why I ask about individual tracks. Maybe they're less likely to be blocked, ah.
That's such a shame when the latter half of things end up being disappointing; gosh do I know that feeling. But hey, at least you can really enjoy the first section of it, and adore Kaneki for all he's gone through, yeah? ❤️❤️
Yeah, I've seen people have mixed feelings but I actually personally think Rebellion is utterly fascinating, and it's interesting how they explore Homura's inner feelings and personality through it. Not to mention the moving is a bloody visually stunning MASTERPIECE. And they even had like a thousand plot twists as is custom of PMMM, haha. It honestly kept in line with the thematic choices of PMMM pretty dang well. And yeah, I agree - it makes sense the direction her character goes in the end after the events of the storyline and Kyubey's interference in Madoka's process, allowing her to become a witch (and then fricking transcend that witchhood). Like... witches are meant to be the embodiment of the negative feelings inside of someone, so it made sense that's the aspect of her that got focused on in the last part. I understand people didn't necessarily like this, but at the same time it like... makes sense.
Not to mention holY CRAP HER WITCH FORM WAS SO GORGEOUSLY AND DELICIOUSLY SYMBOLICAL AND I LOVED IT ALRIGHTY. Also for Bebe/Charlotte to get more screentime was pretty awesome too. The movie was pretty delightful, and in a way it's kind of like that whole Order and Chaos balance each other out theory, you know? Like, the Taoist yin and yang almost.
Golly, yeah. If you ever feel like sharing your AU, totally hit me up! And honestly I agree with you there; it's like the skelebros are... well... bros! Especially since they both kind of play their part in watching over you and keeping you safe throughout the game, even if it's not absolutely obvious all the time. hug I'm so sorry you've seen some nasty things though. It's really too bad we can't just delete memories, ah.
[box=#444342]
oops! I'm not sure what happened but I'll give you separate links of my favourites: one - two. I have them in my iPod! The OST is seriously amazing and it mixes english, japanese and icelandic ❤️
Rebellion is definitely a masterpiece and an eye candy for the eyes. The symbolism is great as well. It's being selfless (Madoka) vs selfish (Homura) but not in a perfect black or white siding. I feel like Rebellion is Homura rejecting the hatred that she had for living again and again the same storyline and being unable to help Madoka. Because at the end of the day ... Isn't Madoka a liar? Remember in the series, she said she would never leave them even if it was the only solution. In Rebellion and at the end of the series, she decides to transcend and break her oath? She leaves her friends behind? How odd. I feel like Homura wanted to say "if I cannot keep you, then no one will remember you but me" - but they do remember her! Which is why Homura is doubting herself and doubting Madoka. She can't see the truth and she will not accept anything. I don't think her soul gem was tainted of hate - It was really tainted of "love" (but here, let's remind ourselves that love is ... a complicated feeling).
Let's remember that Homura Akemi saw Mami becoming a witch + dying, saw Sayaka becoming crazy and witnessing Kyoko dying as well. She was the ONLY one able to remember Madoka and what she did and what she had to give up to save this universe. A universe that Homura will later destroy. Because it's a universe without Madoka. I could go on. I could go forever OLT q_____q
We were talking about their merchandise, right? I really feel like buying some stuff eventually. Not right now bc poor! But eventually ... /sweats nervously @ Ryxe
