So it turns out that whilst we have plenty background depicting ancient temples, Alien jungles, Magical forests and other pretty nature vistas we are sorely lacking for backgrounds depicting urban environments. We have only a few city/urban themed backgrounds but none of them is very usable outside a certain theme.
is covered in snow and only usable when making a winter themed avatar. is only usable on cyberpunk/SyFy avatars. has really hard to match colors is more freerunner/superhero than normal civilian is abstract And makes you look like a giant I don't know how drunk you have to be to see buildings this way both the giant and the snow problem, also super apocalyptic it works but why is it so dark, also it leans a bit on the blade runner syfy side Works for a rebellious city dweller but not for a buisnessman or preppy shopoholic for example
Some rare examples of well usable generic Urban backgrounds:
Now we have established that we have little usable urban backgrounds, what kind of backgrounds would be nice to have: -bg's based on places from the existing centropolis map like the sidewalk in front of the milionaire center or the crosswalk next to the library. -bg's based on locations that should in theory exist but we haven't seen like the suburbs, a playground, a subway station, a theme park, a mall, a bar -bg's based on famous real life city locations like 5th avenue, the empire state building or the mall (Washington DC) themed like they are in centropolis.
and made the good point that some of the more usable existing urban bg's are dark. Sunlit city bg's however are rare.
[edit] Added some mentioned bg's
A couple more, but those are both kind of dark and also aren't great for every situation.
I wouldn't mind seeing some more backdrops like what you're describing ~
[edit] Based on your theme park comment, I would really like to see a backdrop that puts the HA at the Delphi Carnival. And maybe one where the HA is visiting the Aquarium there as well! We have one for the art museum, and now Saggi's garden tour one. I'd love to see some more with the HA visiting touristy places from the different lands. That seems like something that would be cool for a summer theme, going out and doing things like that.
Yes please!! I overuse the Studio set because its one of the very few urban scenes that's not too dark or over specific. I overuse the gazebo one as well. [item2=Studio Set]
Take the beach run background and move it closer to the carnival! Or standing in front of the Ruffie Raffle, or just make an HA version of the Carnival map page. [item2=Beach Run Water Bottle]
There are so many times where I "settle" for a background but I really just want a well-lit generic urban scene.

yes an event like that would be a nice follow up to the cruise plot we had a couple years back
The wel-lit part is actually the thing that is missing most. The is actually a good example of an urban background. I will put it in the first post. (also I totally bought it)
I like to pair it with the Thin Piece of Sidewalk even though the style of the items don't match perfectly. [item2=Thin Piece of Sidewalk]

nghh as someone with a lowkey obsession for cities/urban places THIS SUGGESTION HAS ALL MY SUPPORT
i would really love a centropolis skyline with the top cut out so we can layer it above different skies q ___ q
I like this idea. (they're backdrops, not backgrounds, psst).
The darkness of the ones we've got make it hard to add lightning/rain/fog tilters without wiping out the images, so some nice and bright and cheerful ones would be good. We can besmirch it with Dexter style blood spatters and Survival body parts later if we so desire.
I agree with this suggestion although I'm not sure about scenes based on real world locations.
Centropolis Lower West Side could have a selection of backdrops related to it. The buildings etc would be shabbier than in the central part of the city. Maybe there could be one showing the Pawn Shop.
At the top left of the Centropolis map there's a bridge which obviously crosses the nearby river which is shown on the World Map. Perhaps there could be a riverbank scene with the bridge in the background.
I don't really use background, but I really enjoy seeing what people do with them so I'd love to see some more 'normal' city backgrounds. Like a subway station
Support? Heck yeah!
I always struggle finding fitting backgrounds since I don't like making fantasy etc. related avatars
