I'm trying to get a degree in Web Development and Design, but the degrees in the college I'm looking at seem a bit iffy. The particular degree that I'm looking at seems to more or less cover everything I want: designing, building and running a website with classes that focus on things like the legalities of putting a website on the internet, how to use Photoshop (I frequently use Gimp and Krita for drawing), and some of the coding involved with it all. The trouble is, it doesn't really seem to cover any of those topics very well, so I'm worried that even if I got this degree it wouldn't really help me in the real world.
Could someone who works in the field give me some feedback on this degree? http://catalog.northeaststate.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=20&poid=4427
FYI: I am interested in the design, coding, and functionality aspects of building websites, (mostly front-end, probably some back-end) as well as being able to manage a team and business. I am willing to double-major in management.

Hey, professional web developer here. The degree you posted, I looked at the different required courses and it seems really basic... If you want to focus on the design aspect, this degree seems decent, but it doesn't cover much in terms of development unless I'm really missing something.
You can ask me any specific questions you may have btw, I'm happy to help if I can.

At least it's not just me who thinks that then. I do enjoy drawing and whatnot and do plan on designing some of my own sites, but as far as my degree goes I do not want to focus on the art part. I have a decent idea of that already, and would like to be able to code the site and get it up and running on the internet.
It seems like most of the other options that school provides though are geared more toward being an I.T. professional, namely fixing problems that break on other people's sites and dealing with things like customer support. It didn't seem to entail anything entrepreneurial. I don't think that's what I'm looking for, but I will try not to assume. http://catalog.northeaststate.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=9&poid=970&returnto=278
If you got a degree and it was right for your field, what sort of classes did you take? It could be helpful for me to know what to look out for.

I took a look at the program at that link, and it's a bit closer to what you're looking for, I think. You sound like you want to do web development. The classes I see there that might be relevant are "CISP 1150 - Essentials of Web Development", "CISP 1720 - Web Programming" and "CISP 2030 - SQL Fundamentals"
I wish the courses were more descriptive about what tools and technologies they are actually teaching. But looking at the topics, I would say this course is meant to prepare you to work with existing systems, not make your own from scratch. For instance, you would be able to work with existing platforms for e-commerce and stuff like wordpress (for example), as a lot of these use sql and php. These are old systems but you'll definitely be able to get a job, which I suppose is the point of this program.
If you have to attend this school, however, I think this program is your best option, because I did a search and could not find anything better on that catalog.
I have never taken a class related to web development, nor do I have a degree, so I can't really help you there.

If you're looking to do this for your own website and not for managing anyone else I would suggest the business/management degree with a minor in web development/programming using the classes that Bug suggested. The business part will honestly be the most important thing for you to learn IMO because you can design the best website ever, but it's no good if you can't back it up with business savvy! Good luck!
