- okay - this was your challenge so you get the top ping. :-)

- my turn to give this a try. Will attempt to keep some sort of track of what I'm doing and what happens.

Any and all encouragement/advice will be gladly accepted and considered.

Starting with the following: Prodigy Staff - 2 parched tear, 1 freezing tear Blessed Trident - 2 parched tear, 2 freezing tear Flayed Lord Breastplate - 2 parched tear Reviver of the Lion - 1 freezing tear Phoenix Quill Deluxe Death Shard - 1 parched tear Soma Tablets Recycle Blaster - 1 freezing tear

Small, newly heavily armed with a mostly borrowed arsenal, quaking in her boots ... um uh er ... make that quaking down to all four paws ruffie uses the silver artifact and enters the Battle Coliseum trying to look brave, confident and formidable ...

You Won! You have defeated Panzer Hydra 1 time! You earned 35000 sP for beating Panzer Hydra! Tos earned 1163 EXP Points!

Okay - 1 each so far, I'm very tense, but results are excellent. 1 down, 4 (or 9!) to go. I think I can ... I think I can ... I think I can ...

Now 1 win 16 losses. I get a good string going and either he crit hits me (which can kill me even at full health which has happened a couple of times) or my Flayed Lord Breastplate fails and he kills me. Also I never have a clue when to use something like a Negating Pylonic. It would be great if I used that the turn he finally gets that critical hit. At least then I could keep fighting until he got a second one. So far, though, none of these battles are really close.

Replaced all the freezing tears with water tears (for just a little more damage) and thinking about changing out the Trident for something else soon.

Swapped out the Trident for Shinwas Short Sword with 3 water tears to see if I can get a little more damage done.

Still not getting close. Read books to Tos to gain an Alchemy Point and swapping out one Perilous Whirlpool for a Death Delusion.

You Won! You have defeated Panzer Hydra 2 times! You earned 31500 sP for beating Panzer Hydra! Tos earned 1292 EXP Points!

Got very lucky with Shinwas Short Sword Blessing. Not sure if the scroll swap is any use. It wasn't for this win.

Only 25 losses so far, not that bad yet. 2 down, 3 (or 8!) to go. I think I can ... I think I can ... I think I can ...

Whoo Hoo! Two wins in a row! We're getting better at this!

You have defeated Panzer Hydra 3 times! You won a(n) Extremely Hard token to use in the battle shop! You earned 28350 sP for beating Panzer Hydra! Tos earned 1435 EXP Points!

3 down, 2 (or 7!) to go. I think I can ... I think I can ... I think I can ...

You have defeated Panzer Hydra 4 times! You earned 25515 sP for beating Panzer Hydra! Tos earned 1594 EXP Points!

Still only at 38 losses. 4 down, 1 (or 6!) to go. I think I can ... I think I can ... I think I can ...

Tried replacing the Recycle Blaster with the Replica Minotaur Knocker with 1 singed tear but don't like this combo, so back to the Recycle Blaster for a bit more. Changed all the water tears to singed tears to see if that makes a difference. He blocks fire and magma more than water (does he block water at all?) and don't think I'm getting enough curse damage to compensate, so back to all water tears. Wondering if I should replace the parched tears with water tears as well since I don't get frozen? Does he freeze?

Back to battle some more. After a few more losses I decided to try replacing all the parched tears with water tears.

Needed some more ooomph - so decided to equip some dark water potions (and used other dark potions when they ran out).

It worked!!!

You Won! You have defeated Panzer Hydra 5 times! Panzer Hydra drops: Tread Repairs in the Field Panzer Hydra Gas Canister Panzer Hydra Plushie You earned 22964 sP for beating Panzer Hydra! Tos earned 1771 EXP Points!

To be clear for those who would like to try this, for win five I used all water tear crystals, no parched since I was never getting frozen and didn't seem to need them. I used a Regenerating Pylonic on turn one along with the Deluxe Death Shard, the Recycle Blaster and the Aftershocks Scroll. Then on turn two I used Shinwas Short Sword and the Soma Tablets. After that it was mostly Prodigy Staff and Flayed Lord Breastplate or Prodigy Staff and Shinwas Short Sword except when I needed the Reviver of the Lion or the Phoenix Quill to replenish health. I used the sword as often as I thought I could get away with it because, for Tos, having that blessing (300 health for three turns) kick in at just the right time seemed to make the difference between win and loss. I tried to use the Perilous Whirlpool Scrolls until the antifreeze protection went up even if he wasn't frozen, but used Aftershocks when needed. Once his freeze protection went up, I used Aftershocks every turn. Basically, I tried to push as far as possible before using either the Reviver or the Phoenix Quill and tried to save them for when I was in the red (and sometimes not even then). I also tried to push when I used the sword rather than the breastplate. For win five, I added a Dark Water Potion (and then Dark Magma Potion when I ran out of Dark Water) every turn except for the two times I used pylonics. I equipped 10 Dark Water Potions (best because he doesn't block water) and ran out, I would recommend 15-20. When I finally got ahead of him in health and was close to the last hit for the win, I used a Negating Pylonic so that I could use the sword rather than the breastplate to finish him off. If he had a few hit points left, I went back to one weapon and the breastplate and held my breath.

There are times when he hit for over 2000 damage. I had to just assume those would be losses and not worry about them since I had no way to counter. And, because I was pushing to get in damage, there were times I died with one or both healers unused. Every single extra hit point of health will give you a better chance to survive those "medium" big hits (the ones in the 1000 to 1500 range) and, of course, better defense and more damage help to kill him before he unleashes yet another big hit. Many times, I got away with using the staff and the breastplate when my health was very low. I am not one of the most experienced battlers on this site. If I can do it, you can too! Good luck in the Battle Coliseum.

Special thanks to , who is one of the most experienced battlers and who both issued the challenge that started this, and came up with the weapon/scroll set and basic strategy that eventually worked, as well as lending me several weapons.

Special thanks also to , , for lending weapons and scrolls.

- that's it for Tos I think, it's your turn again now! - I don't care if you beat it 1000 times with Oranos. I am not going for 5 wins with Tharg this year. I am all battled out for awhile. :-) Go Oranos!!! - not quite as bad as Cinthilocks. Final stats 5 wins, 89 losses.

Haha thanks for the ping! I would ditch the freezing tear. The low % chance is not worth it. You can do water attack baguettes on the pstaff and trident or singed for a chance at curse damage. If you don't want to spend more points on parched baguettes, you can substitute the other freezing tears with blessed armor.

I used a Charged Tower Shield to max the 5-headed Hydra for T8 pets. Not sure how it will do against 7-headed, but I can lend you it as well as Aftershocks Scroll if you need. It's currently modded with 3 crit tears.

[item2=Charged Tower Shield] T8, 3 mod slots Attack: 21-25 light Defense: 10 light, phy, fire, dark 5% HP heal 3 mod slots

Edit: Also, you should ditch the breastplate, and go for a healing weapon like the Charged Tower Shield if possible. It's not going to block enough, especially if you get crit. The trident also isn't really the most ideal unless you're lucky to get the blessing, because only the Loose Cannon deals 12 wind (See other thread: HERE)

- might try that, but I'm going to wait a bit. I seemed to freeze him quite a lot in the second battle. Probably just got lucky, but it couldn't hurt to try a few more times. I've got the healer on speed dial just in case. :-)

- I actually got 10 wins on the 5-headed hydra with my T8 pet Tharg with my original weapon set which includes an Aftershocks Scroll. That's how I earned my medal. I seem to have half an armory that I haven't tried yet, so for now I think I need to work with that for a bit. I much appreciate the suggestion and the offer and will let you know if I hit a wall and want to try the shield.

- strange way to be comforting, but I'll take any kind of support with this. Can your beautiful tiger please come and bite off a head or two for me? :-) On the plus side - just got my second win!

- thank you. Tos and I are far from done.

You know, I wish I could sing 'You'll never walk alone' but since Subeta doesn't allow any kind of live singing on the forum (and they should be glad they don't, because I suck at singing) I must come up with another way of singing it.

You're not suffering alone. After you've got that 3rd win I'll rejoin you in the quest for the 5th win loot. You take care of that Hydra. I'll take care of Cinthilocks XD

- that sounds like a plan to me - but don't you need your Reviver of the Lion to fight Cinthilocks?

- two wins in a row! Yay. We are still far from done.

- I hope you're ready for Cinthilocks because I just got win number 3! Either your tiger bit off just the right heads or that hydra is distracted by music (or both)! :-) Heads back to Battle Coliseum singing loudly ...

[edit]On second thought, I think singing makes him MAD. Marches determinedly, but quietly back to the Battle Coliseum ...

[edit] My wrist and I need a break! Made it to 4 wins and will be back later to get at least win 5. Still open for suggestions if anyone has any. For now will post progress to date in the Battle Chat thread.

I used the charged tower shield for a couple of the battles, but it wasn't doing enough damage. Block is great, but that doesn't help when he crit hits a lot.

Thanks for trying that out T9 doesn't seem to offer a whole lot of new options compared to T8, although that is slowly changing. It's a lot easier for T10s vs this challenger.

My T8 is very limited with what he can try for this guy so I think I've pretty much tested every option for him lol. I'm relying heavily on the breastplate, which is great until it doesn't block :/

[edit] Going to post this here if anyone with a T8 wants to try. It is possible to get to 5 wins with a T8 pet if you have an uneven build with high health.

Pet Stats by win 5: 1029 strength 1029 defense 1650 health 1019 speed

Weapons: Blessed trident w/ 2 parched, 2 crit hit (just the mods my main pet uses) Pstaff w/ 2 parched and 1 water attack baguette Flayed lord breastplate w/ 2 parched Pquill, soma, rblaster, reviver and scientist specs modded with either blessed armor or parched

Scrolls: 5 perilous whirl pool to freeze if his blessing didn't activate and aftershocks scroll

Potions: All shards (except ice and light are not needed), negating pylonic, regenerating pylonic and any dark x potion. Dark water potions are ideal since he doesn't block water and it stacks with the pstaff and trident. I didn't have any of these equipped though and was able to get by with the others.

- 5 wins with a T8, congratulations!!! You and Oranos are the stars of the Battle Coliseum.

As far as Tharg goes, he may want to fight, but please read your own quote -

Quote
It is possible to get to 5 wins with a T8 pet if you have an uneven build with high health.
Which is exactly what he doesn't have. I had enough problems with Tos at her health level. I think you have proven the "you can defeat harder opponents sooner with an uneven high health build" theory quite nicely. Tharg will get his chance - new TBT challengers coming next week and the hydras will be back next year. Besides, I let Tharg fight first. He is justly proud of earning the medal that unlocked the seven-headed hydra. And I'd have to reborrow all those weapons and scrolls from you, and . Seriously, I think Tharg's health (about 200 less than Tos) might just push this to impossible. I can't tell you how many times, Tos just barely survived a hit in order to be able to continue the fight. I wouldn't recommend this for a low health T8 (or even T9) without a lot of persistence and a high tolerance for frustration. :-)

- you absolutely can do it with your stats. Tos is only in the 1300's and it took fewer than 100 battles to get the five wins. That extra few hundreds of health and a little extra damage was really what I needed and you should already have that built in. I will edit the first post to show what I did for the fifth win. Basically add dark potions to get the extra damage in.
