I haven't tried and haven't seen anyone who has got a T5 pet posted around here with their results, but I do have a little theory.
I'd say the safest bet is wait until tomorrow or a couple days more until your pet hits T6. Your pet is only a little over 30 stats away from T6 if I don't happen to snoop around the wrong one? The extra stats might not be much of a help but the new range of weapons available would help a lot.
For an early T6 apart from the set I recommended in another thread, I would also equip the following as a must: to boost your strength and defence by 100, bringing you closer to the middle range of T6. for a close call
and optionals (but still highly recommended for early T6s): for some heal bomb for a small chance to freeze
and those Dark X Potions. If you use Dark X potions at all, however, make sure to use water when the hydra is not frozen, and other types when he's frozen. Otherwise, you won't deal much damage. You may also want to look up the Throwing vials on Subetalodge and see what each can do, then pick those that have heal or freeze chance, and those that don't have too spread-out offence. If they deal the icons that the hydra is vulnerable to then that's the ideal pick.
You'd want a defensive, healing scroll and fill the rest of your unused AP with Cobalt Eternal. Your main weapons should consist of one with heal and one with offence that the hydra doesn't block (wind, water, ice are ideal). Better still if they have some chance of freezing. Many of these options are available for T6, unfortunately. For T5 I can think of the Malevolent Grenade, which has a chance to freeze, but unfortunately it deals icons that the hydra consistently blocks, so the battle would be very tedious for you.
The battle might be rougher for T6s than it is for T7s, so expect a bunch of losses. I'd suggest that you fight the hydra for two or three times to get used to its weapons and figure out which blast would be best for you, and refrain from using all those throwing potions until you feel confident in facing him in a serious attempt for a win.
The 5 headed hydra does a lot of dark, fire, magma and water. I would equip the freezewand to block fire and have a potential chance to freeze him before the blessing that protect against freezing activates. The icy freeze wand you may also want to try on your first turn and hope it freezes him. This gives you a chance to blast or hit him hard with a bomb.
may be a good option for magma, but it is semi-breakable you definitely want this to blast your opponent's weapon so they have a chance to use junk instead of an actual weapon has the chance to hit hard but offers no block. nice bomb that will block fire for 3 turns expensive, but another good blaster with a chance to freeze I would use this instead of your healy bones, but it is expensive
If you are close to T6, I agree with maskros. You can train/boost/use experience to get there today and then have much better options for weapons.
I am not sure what your funds are but I would say a good set for T6 would be
For cheaper options: The reborn wand can be replaced with your freezewand The death shard can be replaced with your icy freezewand or The reviver can be replaced with your healy bones the soma tablets can be replaced with something like for more healing
