If you had a clock on your wrist that told you when you would meet your soul mate what would your narrative be?
1 minute 30 seconds- I stand in the middle of the park with my sister, “Now is your forever, do not be afraid.” She shakes a little and her eyes well up with tears.
1 minute 20 seconds- I let go of her hand, motioning for her to go to the center of the park. She releases my hand and begins to shake. "I don't know if I am ready for this! What should I say, what should I do, how will I know it is him!"
1 Minute 15 seconds- She walks over to the fountain, and looks up to me with worry in her eyes. She wrings out her hands. Making eye contact with me, she shakes out her hands and takes a deep breath.
1 Minute 10 seconds- She stands by the fountain like a statue. While scanning the area round the fountain she makes eye contact with me, I can see the nervousness in her eyes.
1 Minute 5 seconds- Her old high school boyfriend walks up, gives her a hug, and asks how she has been for the last 5 years. A flash of pain flashes though her eyes, remembering that he cheated on her with her best friend.
45 seconds- Her ex walks away, she looks up at me with nervousness. A tear escapes her left eye, brushing it away quickly she regains her composure.
40 seconds- I can tell she is getting impatient now, she keeps frantically scanning the area. I follow her gaze as she looks at each guy around the fountain doing a quick analysis of what may be.
35 seconds- Leisurely walking around the outside of the park keeping an eye on her, not wanting to miss the moment she she meets him, wanting to witness every emotion that crosses her face.
30 seconds- I prop myself up on a nearby light pole, with arms crossed. Patiently watching… waiting… for a glimpse into the rest of her life.
28 seconds- A car runs a red light and is t-boned near the light pole I am leaning against. The sound of crunching metal, squealing tires, and the smell of leaking fluids cause me to turn around just as it happens. I hear the screams of many around me, but loudest I her scream.
26 seconds- Just as I turn around the car slams into me, sending me skyward.
24 seconds- As I fall out of the sky everything hurts, but nothing hurts at the same time. People have begun to surround me asking me questions, but all I can do is blink. I can't breathe, I can't speak, time seems to be standing still.
20 seconds- I am surrounded by people who are just gawking, unsure what to do. I let out a small breath that feels like it sets my entire body on fire, it is something I do not want to do again.
15 seconds- She reaches me, I let out a moan trying to communicate that I love her. I hear her whisper “Please be ok, please. You have to be ok. Don’t move, help will be here soon.” Something warm is running down my cheek.
10 seconds- The world is getting fuzzy, she screams “LOOK AT ME, DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES!” I can’t do anything but moan. I do my best to stay awake, it is getting harder. It hurts to breathe, it hurts to see, I am not sure how long I can obey her orders.
5 seconds- The drive that t-boned the other vehicle manages to get out of the car and says, “Oh my god I am so sorry, I didn’t see the light was red!” I hear my sister faintly whispered through her tears as she gently rests her head against mine, “I hope you haven’t killed my sister.”
3 seconds- She grabs my hand, and holds on tight. “I can’t lose you…”
2 seconds- I hear sirens, I know help will soon be here, but I do not know if I will be able to hold on much longer.
1 second- I hear footsteps, they get closer. I open my eyes and look at a man who has knelt over me and begins examining me.
0 seconds- "I’m Shawn, a doctor. I can help your sister. She will be Ok, I will make sure of it." As he works to examine me as the EMTs arrive, he looks over to her, and gives her a shy smile. I know everything will be ok, it is her love.
Her love will save me. I know he will!
I fall into a soft warm blackness.
Oh my. I'm speechless. The writing is so simple, and yet it really resonates with you, ya know? This is beautiful. At first I thought it would end tragically... I'm glad it didn't. c:
This is also an insanely creative concept/prompt/idea, by the way! And the way you wrote it is so neat! I love the writing style especially. It doesn't need to have fancy words and details to make an impact (not that your story wasn't "fancy", though!).
I don't know... I'm rambling. Point is: i love it. I wanna write my own version with the same concept, sort of...
Would you be okay with that? It's fine if not. c: I just liked the idea of the whole "soul mate countdown" thing... Other than that it would be completely different, I promise. But I'd understand if you rather me not use it. (:

Please write one and share it! I love these, I had both of my daughters crying. Writing is somewhat of a pastime to me. I think I have 4 or 5 novels going at the moment!
I would absolutely love to have more submissions.

I'll be sure to share my writing soon, though. c: I still haven't taken this concept and played with it quite yet... But I'm going to subscribe to this thread so I'll always have that prompt to come back to. xD
I once watched a movie I saw on Netflix called "Timer" with this concept and I enjoyed it. It explored some less than good aspects of a world in which some people have a "soulmate timer." There was a man who had a fake one, for example. It was interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timer_(film)
I can't remember if it was part of that movie (might not have been, don't see it in a synopsis) or a similar story or webcomic or something I saw, but I remember another interesting thing a story with a "soulmate timer" did. A family was celebrating their teen daughter's timer being close to the end of its countdown, and the timer pointed to a servant (probably also of another race than the daughter) of the family being the daughter's soulmate, which was awkward for both families.
I really like the concept and it has potential to be used in lots of other interesting ways.

There are three things to know about Eve before we start.
- She has faith in her wrist counter for meeting her soulmate.
- She is meeting them in aproxmently 10 minutes.
- She is at a bar currently, sipping a beer, and sorta nervous. it is a big step after all.
The sound of a person who has been droning on about whatever 'chuthulu' is drowns any nervous thoughts she could ever have, her beer nipping any nervous feelings in the butt. It is going swell. mostly... alright, it is going tragiclly, Eve is bordering on living the most chaotic day thus far in a long while. Today of all days she is meeting her soulmate and she is close to snapping. She has just lost her job, an hour previous, at 7pm. Mama, her cat, had run out the door when she brought her cubicle items home. AND she has spent well over 20 minutes searching for the damn animal. All she can think is that whomever her soulmate is better be stunning, smart, and filthy rich. Money can't fix everything but she would rather be crying in a mansion than in her town house.
She looks at her wrist, gaining her barings on how much time she has, it shines a nice, bright, 6 minutes. Great, she has been thinking for a solid 4 minutes, staring at her last swig of beer. She just clears her throat and chucks the rest back. Swallowing her last mouthful of cheap beer. She feels the temptation of leaving sprout up, maybe she can just look for Mama and go the hell home, but she squashs the temptation to the idea of just getting it done.
"Hey honey, what you drinking?" A male voice slurs, the scent of vodka wafting soon after, Eve looks down at the clock with 5 minutes still on it. She glances at his and sees the deactivated gray zeros.
Great... so he isn't just a drunk idiot, he is a drunk AND cheating idiot. "Yeah, no buddy, not interested." Eve sighs out, standing with her coat in her arms, stratigicly covering her timer from others prying eyes. The boozed guy takes the hint and hits on the next woman he sees, giving Eve prime time to escape onto the alley street.
It is dank in the alley, clanking of feral animals in the bottle bins echoing down, she slides on her coat and makes her way down the alley to her house ignoring her wrist timer, although it must be at 3 minutes by now. This is going well, she thinks to herself, god please just let my walk be boring. There are a couple abnormal echos from the alleyway next turn over, she isn't exactly religious, but I guess she has an answer. Time to investigate I suppose.
Eve turns down the connected alley, this one a bit tighter, between two buildings. She does pause to take a look around, get her mace in her hand, it'll sting although maybe it is an animal? racoons live in the bins, or it seems so at least. She hardly could mace a poor raccon. A thump breaks her from her thoughts, she takes a moment to shrug on her coat, and so she heads towards it. Eve feels her wrist vibrate softly, it is minor, but she is too focused to notice that this means she is in the last 30 seconds before she meets her soulmate. Eve walks down the alley, albeit slowly, with her eyes forwards but darting around her surroundings... Another thump, louder now, comes from the turn and a grunt-sigh. she waits a few moments before she darts around it and stares at them.
The woman is deceptively tall, lanky, and a redhead. The clothes she is wearing all black to blend in an-... Is that a buzz?
Bzzz...BZZZ
It is!? and the soft vibrations that acompany them aren't exactly what had been expected. Eve looks at the hand holding her mace, the wrist timer close to grey at all zeros. The woman doing the same and looking up with a charmed and unexpected smile.
Eve looks at the woman shocked "Oh, what the hell." she breaths out.
"I'm actually Helana." The woman says right before going to pick the man laying at her feet up. Holding him in a bridal carry.
"Why do you have a unconscious man?" Eve says, both shocked and confused.
"Family business," A horn honks from the road at the other end of the alley and Helana lets out a smirk at Eve "Care to join?"
AND we are done!!

First, I love it. Second, did you know this exact concept has been made into a movie? (No not "In Time" with Justin Timberlake but a film called "TiMER" and I've honestly always adored soulmate concepts)
