So I feel it would be beneficial to the site to have a collective forum, or sub-forum (under GD or help?) of both user-made and staff-made guides and resources to cut down on hunting throughout the various forums (and their pages, because a lot drop to the second page and so on) onsite about a guide for say... pet profile coding help, or the reference item master list. I think this would also help those that run the guides by giving the other users an easier way to access them so they can offer up to suggestions to add to the guides and so on.

Thoughts?

This doesn't seem all that necessary.

Subeta's a small site and relies on volunteers to put stuff like those together. Subeta is well-indexed on Google; a lot of these guides we do have are Find-able.

There's a Wikia and a fansite called SubetaLodge. You could volunteer on either place to create a page with all-the-links for either one. If you are super ambitious you could do the Jellyneo type of thing and make commentary on all of them each in an individual article.

I like the idea of a guides and resources forum. It can often be a hassle tracking down info to answer people's questions, or to look to try to figure out if a guide has already been done. Google does help, but I still sometimes can't find something that I know exists.

I definitely think of Subeta's biggest problems is that that all of the information you need is so scattered. Sometimes, I can check both of the Wikia and Subetalodge and still be unable to find what I am looking for. Being able to find everything onsite is just nice - maybe not necessary, but nice.

and I are actually working on a FAQ of sorts that we'll put on the help page (and be able to link in a lot of places). It's something I was working on a while back but had to work on other projects.

My plan is to get the basic questions answered, post on the forums to see users give feedback/suggestions, update it, get feedback again and then push it live for everyone. :)

If you guys already know things you think would be beneficial for new users, returning users, users who have just forgotten how something works, let Destiny or I know! These are the sections we have written down so far:

[li]Pets (species, colors, how to get specific ones, when things will be released, etc) [li]Holidays (why we don't do x holiday, how generic info about each of ours, etc) [li]Currencies (sP, holidays, etc) [li]Mention of Battle (links to other battle things) [li]User dashboard, profile, etc [li]Forums (community guidelines, sCode, titles, forum groups, etc) [li]Games (collection based, javascript, etc) [li]Wardrobe (skins, hexes, clothes, etc) [li]Shops (main, holiday, user) [li]Items (genetech, alchemy, rarities, etc) [li]Cash Shop (gold accounts, hustler, etc)

do you have a shareable document like Google docs for us to look at?

's guide that used to be in FAQ thread of Help & Questions was very thorough and very good. It's now been fragmented with the new forums and parts of it are missing. It's always been tl:dr because many of the questions we get in H&Q used to be readily answerable if the asker could only be bothered to do a Find. Since users are gonna ignore it anyways my suggestions above that some user do the wikia or the Subetalodge for whatever they think are missing is still good no mater what you and do.

To that end I Suggest to you that you break it into chunks so people will read it but make the whole thing Searchable across those chunks somehow because the current fragmented version isn't.

Like I said, once it's ready to go out (which should be soon), there will be a forum I'll have where I'll link the page (on site) and users will be able to read over it and post on the forum with suggestions/feedback that I/Destiny can answer. I posted those sections now so you guys have a general idea of what will be included now and can either a. provide any huge topic we've forgotten and/or b. be prepared with some questions/suggestions once we post the FAQ. :)

The sections I listed are headers, and will be anchored so you'll easily be able to go between sections. Each section will have questions that pop up a lot via help & questions / elsewhere and answers with plenty of links etc.

Several areas I regularly see on the forums:

The new shop/gallery is still a big thing that comes up weekly, if not more often.

Dashboard - I see you have the dashboard listed in the topics, but its usually the other way around. People don't ask about the dashboard, they ask questions where the ANSWER is the dashboard - like where do I see my sP, or what's this about widgets?

Achievements - this really needs a guide of some kind. People want to know how to get titles, confirmation of achievements that are retired or broken, and which are easy to get a start on. As it is, they look at the achievement page and really have no idea where to start.

Trophies come up from time to time as well.

In wardrobe questions, drawers are coming up a lot - why they don't show up half the time.

The alchove - lots of confusion between pet alchemy levels (for spells) and your own alchemy level for creating items at the alchove.

That's what comes up at the top of my head. There's probably lots more I'm forgetting.

The sections listed are where questions/answers that fit under that are appropriate. So for the dashboad, a lot of those things will be listed. :) We're hoping to get this draft done this weekend so we can do an announcement forum for it Monday/Tuesday so you guys can see.

Trophies will be included under games. New shops is def worked into the shop section. :) Forum titles are included in the forum section.

[edit]

oh i realize i forgot to include 'items' in my section list earlier. There is an item section that covers like genetech, alchemy, rarities and what they mean, etc.

Tbh I really support the idea of a forum better than I do a general FAQ section.

While I see a need for the FAQ, there are things on the site that users help with that Staff sometimes forget about. Yes, opening a forum to get questions answered is helpful, but in the end the FAQ is going to be this massive list of things that aren't actually Frequently Asked, but more a single instance of someone needing knowledge on a small thing maybe no one else will think about.

Having a Forum that lists things individually is easier to read, keep track of and honestly more aesthetically pleasing.

[edit]

I'd also like to point out that having one place for User Made guides would be super beneficial. Sometimes users are able to do more in that area than staff. I'm not saying Staff are bad but there are time constraints, there are things you guys have to get done in a certain time frame and sometimes keeping guides up-to-date is very time consuming. I would know, Newbie is very time consuming and I'm very behind in updating her.
