Hi! I'm Kai! I used to play Neopets, but never really understood it, lmao. This is my first time on Subeta! But I've been here for about a month I think now? I'm bad with time.

Anyway, I'm gay, and trans, and lookin for some advice for Subeta and friends in general! I had originally set my goal for this site on customizing my pet colors to how I wanted them to be, but now I'm not sure what to do now that I find that it's so easy to do and change. ;w;

Hi! Welcome to Subeta! Personally my goals usually have to do with figuring how to code and messing around with pet pages. That and having fun collecting treasures and achievements. But there are collections for beanbags, plushies, minions, trading cards... you name it, we've pretty much got it. :) Theres games and quests for the fun of it, and Masquerade is coming up to!!

We have galleries much like on Neopets! :) Sorry my wording wasn't great I was pre-occupied with something else, it really should have read collecting for galleries?

You can create your own gallery via Commerce > Your shops on the top nav bar. Alternatively a lot of users also like to display collections in their pet treasures (which is basically like a pay-per-slot mini gallery each pet has)

The Masquerade is a steamworks themed event we have where you can earn freebies throughout the event. You can read up on it here :)

The Masquerade is an annual holiday here on Subeta. You can read the history about it at this link. It starts late March and goes through the beginning of April. It tends to be very steam punk themed. :) They will have a story line that gets announced and explained in the news posts and it will culminate in a big dance! You'll be able to dance with other users using buttons in the forums. You'll get tokens for dances and be able to spend them on prizes. It's a bunch of fun!! You'll need to get a mask for your avatar to dance, but that should also be explained in the news posts when the dancing starts.

If you want to put something in your collections, just buy and item that falls into a particular category, like the beanbags for example. Click on the item, and one of the action options below should be "add to Beanbag collection" (or something pertaining to whatever collection you've just purchased the item for). Those are collections, and once you put an item in, you can't take it out again.

Galleries are another way to collect things, but you can take things in and out at will. Under the Commerce Menu, click "Your Shops" and open a gallery. You can theme it with whatever you want, code it, and collect whatever random collections you want. You can even have multiple collections in the same gallery! I have one called "Extra Pet Treasures", with a separate category for each pet inside. Id' be happy to help you figure it out further if you want?

haha, I actually don't remember much about neopets other than feeling very lost on everything and wondering why I could hardly do anything other than play games xD but this Masquerade sounds like it's going to be so fun! I'm really looking forward to it! Thank you for the clarification and the help!

I guess it's just collecting a buncha items of any theme or lack of theme you want to? There's a LOT of items on Subeta, and I think generally speaking people love the artwork or humour of some of the items here so it's quite fun to hoard heaps of items c: Especially when sP isn't too hard to earn (Love me some e-retail therapy)

I think my favorite things so far have been reference items. I've spotted pokemon items and spongebob and just all kinds of reference items that would be so funny to collect over time!

Actually, I just realized I have a different question you might be able to answer. I found out that you can have custom overlays for your pets. All the ones I've seen have looked super similar or close to the art style on Subeta. If I draw my own, does it need to look similar, or can it be in my own style?? Also can I just minorly edit one of my existing pets as an overlay or is that against the rules? :o

Edit: One more question! How do you put images on your forum posts etc? I'd like to be able to customize my stuff more ;w; Thanks in advance!

There is a list of reference items in General Discussion somewhere, there are a lot of pop culture/movie references or even books etc. :)

Custom overlays - you can read the rules/info when you press upload new here under Pets > Custom overlay on the top nav bar You can draw art in your own style or edit your existing overlay as long as they fit the rules. You can get an idea of some of the custom overlays people used by browsing the news for pet spotlight winners :)

Interact > Forums > Options is how you get a forum image :)

I tried (emphasis on tried) to play Neopets years ago, but honestly I was SO CLUELESS on how everything worked. I wanted to paint my pets all those cool colors and everything but gOD I just remember not being able to get my hands on anything and just.... playing games pretty much. So coming to Subeta I feel like I'm having a REALLY great time because I can actually do things and not feel lost. xD

Dressing up the avatar is so nice isn't it!? I really love the plethora of items we have access to!

Oh I knew what I was doing. I had 20 pets all painted, dressed, with petpet and petpetpet. I had no goals left so I used all my monies to buy other people stuff they dreamed off (which I'm hoping to do here eventually, too). But there were a bunch of people just ruining the atmosphere for the rest. Snarky, rude. It was no fun. I quit because of that. People here are so nice and friendly and helpful and generous! It's eye opening! To see this is possible in an online community. It's so great. I feel right at home :)

I've only heard a bit about the Neopet community and it definitely didn't seem as friendly as Subeta is. I really love this community and I'm so glad that I found this site! I find it a lot of fun to go through my friends wishlists and buy them the things they really want! It's such a good feeling! And all the threads that are just so friendly?! Gosh, this site is just so GOOD.

Yeah an old friend of mine told me about subeta, I was sceptical at first, but I'm so glad I tried it out!

Did you draw the art in your forumset? :) It's pretty adorable (I may have snuck a look at your Tumblr too) If you're interested, we also have an art market where you can sell art (look a little further down on the forum listings) :) I think you'd do pretty well!

I most certainly did ahaha. I've seen the art market and I see we got so many talented artists on this site too! I love it so much! At some point I'll work on my prices to be able to sell my skill~ Would love to do so! :)
